CE of JMT ‘on leave’

Interested to know if the Trust is a "Landowner" how a CEO would be granted the venison "rights" etc. without the formal consent of Trustees and the membership?

It’s astonishing how much damage a single person can do to an organisation, and how powerless they can be to stop it.

You see it over and over in organisations with weak systems for scrutinising the behaviour of senior leadership and limiting the extent to which single individuals can control things.

It’s never just the fault of one person: the fact that this can even happen indicates systemic structural failing already in place.

Aye it is astonishing.

It usually occurs when the individual sees their way as the only way and they will not deviate from that stance.

It doesn't always indicate, that there were failings within the ranks. It sometimes shows that one individual can exert control over many around them, hard to believe so it would seem but it does happen.

I have seen it in a work situation (building trades)

Just to be clear, I’m not at all saying the people in these organisations are at fault - almost always they’re good people in awful situations. It’s that they’re in an organisation where the internal structure and systems for limiting abuse of power are absent or broken.

My own institution is grappling with similar issues, with a senior leadership team bent on imposing unworkable ‘reforms’ driven purely by personal agendas. We’re very slowly and painfully fighting back, but enormous amounts of time and money has been wasted. It’s very clear that the leadership bitterly resent any scrutiny of their decisions!
