Breakfast ideas please.

As I have been informed that I am pre-diabetic and must change my ways.
Any guidance please.
I have mainly been having porridge 5/6 mornings or Tesco wheat and rice flakes sunday morning. Special treat Saturday morning after shopping would be bacon sammich.

Would you mind me asking what the rest of your meals are , as long as it’s not the little pots pre made , that are rammed with sugar …
Porridge isn’t terrible.

Try buying smaller plates. Modern plates are very large and encourage eating too much. Then try eating the same things you like, and make time for yourself to get more physical activity in.

Im type 2. I still eat (proper) porridge that i make each morning. Couldnt get on with yoghurt and blueberries!
I cut out sweet stuff and carbs, I still have the odd spud though. Each person is different, what sets one person off is ok for another. My main thing is wheat. So i use rye and corn breads in small quantities.
Im not, nor ever have been, overweight. But it does run in my family. When i started loosing weight it became a concern as i was about to disappear. But i have found my level now with one metformin tablet per day.
Online food advice is very confusing. A lot of older advice, and some new advice too, was to eat pasta and rice, which is as bad as white bread.
My diabteic nurse did tell me that a lot of NHS advice is crap and she doesnt give out the leaflets anymore. She did put me onto websites such as DiabetesUK which seems to have good advice. As it happens there appear to be two Diabtes UK sites... one with a red logo and one with a blue logo. I was told the red logo site was better.
Try this free App called " Freshwell". It was an eye opener for me with good food advice... try the Swede chips!
All the best. PM me if you think I can help.

Hello Dave.
I am concentrating on brecky for now as that is where I struggle. I always thought that porridge was good, but now not sure because of carbs. Midday and evenings are easier I think because I like salad for example.
I have cut back on tatas and stopped even buying biscuits. Evening meals just don't seem right without spuds, rice or pasta.
A .gov lady is sending me out some booklets in the post, she suggested and avocado and two eggs for breakfast which doesn't have the same appeal as a full English, but hey ho.

Bryan. Try Lentil pasta, but only in a pasta bake, as its better. Pea pasta is revolting!! Just my opinion of course!

Sadly pal , it will take a bit of getting used to and some discipline to stick to it.
But you can get there , it’s better than having type two pal.

The wife was the same she now eats mainly a protein-based diet,
nearly carnivore, but not quite able to wean her off the crumpets she is now looking like a teenager again with just a few wrinkles.
she is no longer pre-diabetic
Try fried minced meat venison or beef with a poached egg for breakfast it's surprising how long you go before you feel hungry again.

We (Wifey) went from these to these.
Kb.
Ps. The grand kids use the old ones now.

A friend of mine living in France was told that he was on the verge of becoming diabetic. The female French doctor told him that it could be avoided by a diet, but he would never stick to it. She wasn't aware of John's attitude to being told he wasn't capable of something.
Intake nothing but water, six days a week for eight weeks!
Solid food on the seventh day
Job done!

I found I could lose half a pound a day eating five portions of white fish fillets(microwaved) and five apples spread over eight hours.

Brose is the breakfast of champions. Pinhead oatmeal, add a pinch of salt and boiling water, leave for about 3 mins, then eat. Will keep you full all morning

A work medical caught me out four years ago. I’d lost four stone but the doctor declared me diabetic and obese.
Yes I was a bit a very big bit overweight however I was losing weight by eating porridge for breakfast.
I ended up losing ten and a half stone that year and porridge had nothing to do with it!
I’m no longer diabetic and never needed the medication.
Cancer, a big tumour growing behind my sternum!
After the chemo and six weeks of radiation therapy I was too skinny!

Oh and surgery to remove my sternum and most of my clavicles

I now weigh only half a stone more than when I left the army in 1988!

Not as fit but healthier for it!

I'm not diabetic but have skyr yogurt with walnuts, blueberries and honey.instead of the junk cereal or bread.
I've also swapped a lot of my carbs from bread/rice/pasta and potatoes to lentils/beans and vegetables and feel much better with no sugar lows etc.
I have the occasional processed carbs but try not too👍

Low carb
Cauliflower grated instead of rice .. takes on flavours well ….

Latest thing I read to flatten out glucose spikes is when eating a meal is to eat the veggies first then your protein, then eat the carbs on the plate last …. Fibre in veggies helps line intestines and slows glucose absorption so don’t get classic spike but a more slowed down absorption .

Good luck & good health
to you

Paul
