Reloading problems

Hi all, sorry to keep asking similar questions, so I’ve been trying to get a load for my remmy700 308, 178eld with n140, groups were terrible, higher lower in or out, now I tried one charge weight with some Norma 201 I had lying around out of interest, best group yet, sub moa, question is since n140 isn’t working would I go lower than n140 like n133 or higher n150 or 550 etc. using more Norma 201 isn’t an option as no more available

Looking at Viht old site, I seem to remember they show with an * the most accurate load, I seem to remember N150 with a 167gn lapua scenar hit the spot, at just over 44gns.
Your 178 are not overly different, probably try ammo testing with 5 batch of the same weight , and go up about half a grain a batch. When you get the best, repeat quarter of a grain either side, take them half a mm away from lands.
The only real issues could be, check your rifle twist rate is good for this weight of bullet. And check you haven't built up a carbon ring , IE that the barrel is clean. It will help if you use bushing dies , but as long as the bullet is firmly seated you should get good results.
It may just be me, but i find long heavy bullets are generally more accurate over distance, the downside I always seem to find is if you go for a longer target type of the bullet it will usually be more sensitive to the variables of reloading, powder charge , overall length, and neck tension, and it takes more time to work out the most accurate load.
Good luck.

What charge of N140 are you using?

I tried from lowest to highest recommended charge in .3 increments for the 178eld and 155 scenar, was starting to think rifle buggered but it groups factory 110 vmax nice and that experimental load of Norma 201 41gr was better, shame it’s taken me so much powder and time to realise

Could just be it doesn’t like long bullets - sounds like you are target shooting? If not and used for game maybe try a few lighter bullets. My Remmy loves 125 Prohunters and 150 Gamekings - Macleod’s usually have them in stock.

I am tempted to stick with the 110vmax as sub Moa and just mince up 🦊 but I am a member of a range who have a 1000yard and I was trying to make a load to compete, problem is it’s electronic target that needs them to still be 1200 fps ish so high bc as fast as they can, I’ve got the speed just no accuracy
