Amount of ammo in built-in ammo safe

2nd safe is definitely the way to go. Easy to fit alongside/on top of your gun cabinet also unless you are really restricted on space for the cabinet in the first place. The one linked above is great and really does hold quite a lot of ammo.

Looks like the one I've got.

The supplied bolts were pretty flimsy but otherwise very decent for the money.

I ditched the bolts it came with and drilled the holes out 2mm larger and fit using the same Rawlbolts I used for my main gun cabinets. Otherwise, as you say its spot on!

Just to say if you're new to this scoped rifles don't really fit in normal shot gun cabinets.

Don't waste your time and money looking at small 3 gun cabinets because they just aren't deep enough. By the time you get a 50mm scope on a rifle it won't fit inside.

The gun capacity given by manufacturers is also optimistic due to the width of the guns.
Yeah cheap 3 gun cabinets seem easy to find. Figured it might be a bit tight though by the time you add a scope.

If you have a scope, you really need a deep cabinet. Its a real pain fitting one in otherwise. Also, go for the largest cabinet you can find, what others have said about the "number" of guns in the product title is true, its a massive understatement in the advertising. 3 gun cabinet is 1-2, a 4 gun is 2 (maybe 3 at a push) and even the 7 gun cabinets only hold 4-5 comfortably unless you can get some serious tetris skills on the go.

I have a fairly deep cabinet rated for five guns. Not a hope! I can get three scoped rifles in, and that's it. I use a separate safe for my ammunition though. Far easier

Apply for 200 of each calibre on the grounds a range day require that many rounds for each gun. Then get as many as fit in your cabinet which will be less probably

They won't approve the quantities you're asking for unless you can demonstrate that you have sufficient storage space for them in a secure safe. That was my experience with the Met FET anyway. So you can't ask for more rounds than fit in your ammo cabinet.

I'm with Met and i've got 300 rounds for each centerfire and 600 for rimfire... They never question it .

It may be a case of who the FEO is, and also their procedures may have changed over time - this was raised a few years back, but not since they stopped making in-person checks when renewing the FAC. My last physical visit was in 2015, the 2020 renewal was done by zoom (due to COVID), not sure what they'll require in 2025.

I havr 500 rounds each on my 3x centrefire calibres for target, 1500 rimfire (2x .22lr) yet my latest variation for a 44mag for target is only 100 rounds? Although it's ten years since I got the others approved, and moved forces in that time too.

My force are reluctant to give me a decent amount of 17hmr ammo. I've got two 17hmrs on my ticket got hunting but I'm only allowed 300.

Even 600 would easily fit in the top box of my gun cabinet though.
