To 6.5 or not to 6.5 that is the question!

I did
Then I went 6.5 284

I might get a second rifle In 6.5 prc
Never done the 6.5-284 , but I am watching a LNIB Ruger #1V chambered in 6.5-284 . Of course I’ve already got a 6.5-06 did the 6.5 PRC and have the 6.5 Sherman Short Magnum . I’ve got I think five rifles in 6.5 all different cartridges 6.5x54 MS up to the 26 Nosler . I just enjoy messing with most any 6.5 but must confess I don’t do the Crudmoor nothing against the cartridge I just don’t care for some of the quasi fake wanna be military people it seems to bring out in this country .

For living in a country that’s supposed to be the king of 30 cals I seem to put far more emphasis on 6mm 6.5mm and 7mm cartridges .

Can I ask how you make Sherman short mag brass ?

Sherman makes their own brass . I saw some for sale on Gunbroker that was less than half the price of 100 pieces and it was brand new unfired brass . 100 pieces on the website is $220 I think I got 97 pieces for $60 on Gunbroker . I bid on the brass then started researching lols .

i presume you don't do 223 or 308 either or the 338 lapua ?

I own a 308 have owned several 223’s and worked up loads for a 338 Lapua . Why ?
But you’ve never met a quasi fake etc with any of those calibres but you have with the calibre you call crudmoor but have nothing against ?

The creed will get you to the 1000 a lot easier than the .243 . It will no doubt hit harder on animals if you are using to top end weight of bullet. I had both a fast twist .243 and a creed after that,I much prefer my .260 but that’s not really fashionable with some. If your looking at a 6.5 go prc (depending on your range needs) if you are just stalking roe/fox/hinds say out to 250 odd the .243 will be more than fine. The creed is just a reinvention of the wheel to keep Hornady ticking along. All its hype and it still doesn’t do anything that any other calibre in that realm that’s been around for years does. The prc is a different Kettle of fish all together in the 6.5’s (they should if missed the creed out and went straight for the prc). I don’t have one or know anyone with one so I can’t say that much about it as I’m more a .260 ack/25.06/.270/.284/7mm rm type of bloke but most of them all do the same job. If you want to scratch a itch then go for it but I would be scratching elsewhere 😂 happy buying
I watched THLR recently on YouTube he said 6.5prc was an unnecessary expensive waste of time

The 6.5PRC is essentially a magnum 6.5 Creedmoor. Saying the 6.5PRC is a waste of time is like saying that the 300 Winchester Magnum is a waste of time. The 300 WM is basically a magnum 30-06. I have a 30-06 and a 6.5CM but not a 6.5PRC or 300 WM. But neither are a waste of time. They shoot flatter and hit harder at greater ranges than their standard counterparts. If you need that, then great. But despite all of the hate that the 6.5CM gets it’s more than capable for anything you’re going to encounter in the UK. It’s a modern equivalent of the 6.5 Swede which has proven itself for well over a century. It’s just more available in modern rifles and ammunition is more widely available in a larger variety than the Swede. So the hate really doesn’t make any sense to me.

I wonder why.

It’s a very different thing. For a given barrel length, you get around 350fps more from a PRC. That makes a substantial difference to what it can do, and what you can do with it.

I think a lot of confusion has arisen when people have compared a hot loaded Creedmoor with a long barrel against a factory PRC with a short barrel. Then they can be quite similar.

I agree with both of the above comments. My creedmoor is running 114gr yew tree doing similar velocity to factory prc ammo with 30gr heavier bullet. My pal has 3 variants of 6.5 and prc is top choice . I seem to have a sweet spot with my creedmoor only thing that would sway me would be prc to buck the wind better. I'm happy with what I've got chasing the perfect calibre is never ending 🤔
