Left handed Controlled Round feed actions

I’ve got LH Winchester M70’s, Ruger Hawkeye, and CZ550. I believe Winchester had to pay royalties to Mauser in the early days for copying the M98 too closely.
You may be thinking of the early 1900’s litigation between Mauser & the US government concerning the ‘Springfield’ action being essentially a copy of the 98.
Mauser claimed ended up being paid a royalties.

Prechtl are the ones Kesslerin use. The black with gold finish is awful, never seen him do one in the white or classic blue.
GMA would be a good choice if you get the import papers, Joe smithson uses them, in fact, he’d be a good smith for such a build, and his proprietary rings are stunning

The real practical answer to this is of course a LH L61R
Yeah there are some disgustingly ornate rifles built using them, but that’s no mark against the action. You could certainly build a timeless classic on a Prechtl - possibly more so than any other. For one it’s a true 98, Mayfair uses M70 design features in the bolt.

NECG had Prechtls listed at US$6k, although the longer supply.

Those do look interesting. I would use the open top version non picatinny. Not sure about bolt handle, but sure that can be changed.
they look good, I’ve been researching them a bit recently and can’t find any flies on them. However they’re geared more for the long range hunting crowd than the high end sporter type

Prechtls are lovely actions and its what the likes of H&H used to use. But only make them with the bolt on the incorrect side.

Like the bottom metal and the bolt handle, although it’s a touch long compared to original designs. NOT liking the milled in EAW DSB base fittings! Needs a thumb slot cutout for pushing cartridges down with the left hand!

Didn’t realise that - surely for that sort of money if you’re ordering they can do a LH…

True, nothing wrong with a little bit of extra length though… yeah the milled bridges aren’t great, but I suspect that’s just what NECG ordered - I’d be amazed at f they didnt offer blanks

The 275 Rigby that I am looking after is going to the grand daughter of the gentleman for whom it was built. I have been looking after it till one his family is in a position to have an FAC and take it on.

So I am thinking about its replacement. I like it as a rifle, but its right handed. So am thinking about building a replacement.

I want a left handed bolt. Cartridge - 7x57 of course.

Thinking about the action. I would really like a good controlled round feed, indeed a left handed Mauser 98 would be ideal.

No I am not going to use a Rem 700, Tikka 695, T3, Sako, Ruger etc.

The Mayfair is an obvious choice, but need a mortgage.

It will be a traditional styled rifle with a floor plate magazine etc. I will of course use a cellulose and carbon composite stock.

There are a few US controlled round feed actions, but are they available in the UK / are they any good. The win mod 70 is a bit eeeh. It looks nice but not not so nice in the flesh.

I already have a left handed Heym SR20 - I do like the action but its a push feed. Rigby / Roberts / Procter / David Lloyd did use these actions for LH rifles.

Any thoughts welcome.
You also might consider a Zermatt TL3 or SR3. Both are available in left hand, and CF. With the swappable bolt heads you also gain a bit of flexibility should you ever decide to change caliber/case. And since they are DLC coated, the actions are pretty smooth and resistant to corrosion from weather. Being magazine fed is also a plus (3 rd AICS mags, 5rd and 10rd).
