Rifle bolt jamming in wet conditions

As an aside, is the scope rail or mount/s attached with 8-40 screws to the action?

The rfd did this for me when I got the rifle. I assume your querying if they're too long and compressing internally to cause a pinch??

If so this would affect the operation in dry conditions also no??

If this rifle has overly fine tolerances it will most likely be hydraulic issues.

When stuck does it ease if brought into the house and warmed, obviously you do this safely.

This is the problem with CNC design and build.
Not made by riflemen/engineers. Spotty faced gen Zedders that can't even great another fellow human without a phone!

Have you removed and reset the action bolts have you a black sharpie I'd remove the stock dry mark it up and then try it then repeat wet . The weathers crap at the moment so the cold and wet aren't a problem to replicate .Also is the a point at which the bolt starts to jam up ?

both the Sauer 100 and the Mauser M18 suffer from this
its the profile of the bolt handle and the bolt in the action

if you put too much pressure on the ball of the bolt handle when cycling you can feel it jam up the bolt
its imparting lateral force instead of linear in an already tight action/bolt body
If its sticky or wet in there I can see how it would make it worse

have you ever dropped the rifle?
We had one that took a knock on the rear bridge where the bolt closes that actually closed the gap to make it even tighter
not as hard as they should be

And thats the reason the old Mauser 98s, Enfields and whatever the Russian bolt action was called all have sloppy bolts - little risk of binding with a terrified young soldier trying to work the bolt in the midst of battle in a snowy muddy trench

Typical human behaviour, sink to the lowest common denominator.

Is the Mauser proper stainless or just a silver painted rifle? It could be something simple but I wouldn't put up with it.

Sounds like sloppy workmanship then would carefully mating the bolt lugs with some grinding compound help?

It would help remove the steel hardening, causing early lug set back and headspace issues

Utter booloocks do you have any idea about how little is removed by grinding paste? Grab yourself a block of hardened steel and some valve grinding compound and try and remove 0.25mm…… enjoy

Really depends on how hard the steel is and how it is hardened. Many bolts have been ruined by this

I don’t trust anything on YouTube but I do have personal experience and have a small engineering workshop to back up my views. But you believe what you like mate
