Been a self employed decorator for 25 years but will be working 3 days from now on, can't say iv enjoyed it but it pays the bills

Well, I get paid to do my hobby and I get everything supplied to enable me to do it. I do it with a passion. So I regard it as I haven't got a job, just a hobby. Higher up has mentioned retirement but I enjoy it too much.

I did warehouse work for a few years and while it was hard graft, I enjoyed the camaraderie. But I realised I am basically unemployable so did the obvious thing and went into academia. Ended up doing ten years on faculty at a leading uni - I loved lecturing and research but in recent years the level of bureaucracy and woke nonsense became intolerable so I left and set up my own business, which doesn't pay much but is great fun.

I don't hate my job, the commute I do hate 120 miles per day, the rotating shifts I tire of 12 hours switching days to nights.

I have had many hats on from when I left school at 15yrs! the last 8 has been within Adult care mostly within Palliative care to and to be fair this has been on the hole an enjoyable role! but it's come to that time we all think of 🫣 I have decided to pull the pin and have given my 12 weeks notice. This after a very active working life ! Its become or should I say The care for others has now shown me there is more to living than the words we all say in our heads when we get older! I wonder ,if only, should have ,if only ! as iam not getting younger or fitter it's my time not to get called out meet and deal with the stressful meetings of family etc.
So with the new boat its time to do and not just wonder!.

I’ve taught for the last decade, and am getting increasingly fed up with it. Increased demands and expectations alongside decreased behaviour standards & budgets (for both resources and wages) has made it a joke. I’ll be getting out in a year or two.

Yes, I'm a self employed carpenter and enjoy creating nice stuff and the freedom it gives me (having a work van that doubles as a camper helps). In the next few years I'm hoping to get myself into a financial position where I can have more time off to pursue my passions.
