2025 Purchase Heym v M18/CZ600

So many things wrong with the cz600 wood stock models, I’m guessing it will be an enormous flop. The synthetics might sell a few
Plastic double stack magazine on wood stocked models, no option for floorplate. Laser checkering in fishscales or fleur de lys, but the fleur de lys is not optioned elegantly and it looks like it was adjusted to suit the laser, not be a classic checkering pattern. Bolt shroud isn’t elegant and looks plastic, same with bottom hardware. Wood knob on an ugly curved bolt handle! Sights are looking like recknagel not cz’s own. For a classic rifle, where is the option for a blued barrel?

The ergo and ergo driven hunt looks sensibly put together, although a thumb hole stock is terrible for quick shots, so really not the one to have picked for that model!!!! And where are the open sights for the driven hunt/tracking rifle?

I’ve also noticed that off the shelf Heym are exceptionally well priced at the moment. I like the look of their SR30 offering, but won’t get to see one until Feb. I would pitch it against the Mauser M12 which is also an impressive offering.
The problem is that post Brexit Heym has stopped importing to the UK and obtaining 🇩🇪 Export Licenses for firearms is not easy.
What I’d not considered until your post is the potential to source a German rifle in the Emerald Isle and bringing it back across the Irish Sea in person. I don’t know if any other SD Members have done this?
In short, I’d probably stick with Heym if you’ve got a good Irish importer.
My wife wanted a Heym about 5 years ago. We called several dealers and the answer was the same from them all, that Heym weren't interested in exporting to the UK, although I saw several new ones in Garlands last year, so might have changed.

She found one second hand and used it for a year. She eventually swapped it for something lighter. Grouped well and no faults at all. She did find it heavy, but now uses a Blaser K95, which is probably as light as you can go sensibly.

Which CZ 600 are you thinking about - the Lux or the American?

The CZ 600 seems to have been slow be become popular in the UK. I've two CZ 557's and can't fault them, I'd like to hear more first hand experience of the 600 too.
American, but at this stage I think I'm going to hold out for an Anschutz, I think I will regret it if I don't.

Get the Anschutz and don’t look back. I have one and it’s excellent. What stock configuration are you considering on the Anschutz?

Classic in 223, I would prefer an American style but they dont do it in 223

I was going to get a 308, but I got hold of a CZ 750, and put in in a nice stock, I'm going to chop the barrel, the carpet line is at 18 inches, but I cant decide on 18 or 20.
The stock needs to be refinished and re - oiled but very happy with it. The original 750 stock is butt ugly!

For the CZ you might be better hunting down a later production 550, these used the mauser control round feed and were made of blued steel and oiled walnut!
Unfortunately the biggest selling point for the CZ600 was supposed to be the user changeable barrels. Then almost as soon as they hit the shelf they got recalled and that option was taken away by having the fixing screws for the barrel submerged in permanent thread adhesive. I think CZ really missed the boat on the 600 and to make matters worse, they also discontinued all previous models.

Hi Andy, the 750 is essentially a heavy barrelled 550 (same action) in a target stock with a finer trigger. They were trying to compete for the police sniper market but didnt really work out/

I agree.

OK, so I've not owned one but I'm struggling to believe the Heym SR21 is as bad as you guys suggest. Its also a very nice looking rifle IMHO!

They are undoubtedly beautiful, and handle wonderfully. I REALLY wanted to like mine, and persisted with it for a very long time.

But in the end, I decided it was a flawed design. It’s a real shame. If it had been reliable, I’d still have it.

A week ago I took in a CZ American/varmint 25" in 223. Barrel is more like medium weight. I had bought that rifle new many moons ago, shot max 500 rounds and sold it to a friend who never used it. She had a reinforced forend (not visible from outside) and is epoxy bedded. Has a Schmidt and Bender 4-16x50 long range with 5mm clicks fitted. Lovely clean quality rifle. We are in Co. Cork in case you were in the area.
Wasn't sure if it was 308 or 223 you are after.
