Use non galv chain, pre heat (std practice) for hardox. Or use a 2 short pieces of non galv chain and bolt it to your galv chain after welding the short piece,Welded 10mm link chain bolted with M10 bolts, weld and bolt and Hardox held but the galvanised chain gave way to the .270 at 100m, what’s the answer.

I’ve used chain, bailer twine, para cord and old seatbelt webbing
They all fail at some point
Usually, with chain , it is the shackles that take a beating
I stick to chain as it dampens the movement of the gong
You do talk Rubbish.....Don't weld, and have the target cut with something that doesn't (overly) compromise the cutting area.
Bolts through, add washer on shooting face if desired, to act as sacrificial material. Chain, or maybe you'd prefer rubber (conveyor belt etc like said) will attach in the back of the target. This will place the gong so that splatter is away from the attachment (including beams and such). You might want to add extra nut on the back of the target, to gain more angle.

I weld chain to my Gong still going strong after 7 years AR450 @25mm thick.
The thread is about a broken welded chain link that is a welded chain linkThe location of your chain links is really important. Yours allow the gong to pivot and aren’t actually on the face of the gong so are protected.
