What chain on the gong?

Welded 10mm link chain bolted with M10 bolts, weld and bolt and Hardox held but the galvanised chain gave way to the .270 at 100m, what’s the answer.

Experience dictates that you’re wasting your time with chains. Have a look at The Steel Target Company of Wybunbury. Outstanding products and the answer to your problem but be prepared for poor communication and slow service.

My brother and I have a few of their gongs and also a couple of the target setters.

Yes waste of time using chains. Get some targets from the steel target co as suggested above. It’s an ingenious design. 400 yard group with my .270 win.

You will never look back.image_cropper_118F3A5A-F0A9-4965-B9C1-1D3B5AF07A3D-11270-0000089D3F7B4AFF.jpeg

Dont weld the chain to the gong bolt it on with washer over the chain and allow it to swivel dont tighten it

I’ve used chain, bailer twine, para cord and old seatbelt webbing

They all fail at some point

Usually, with chain , it is the shackles that take a beating

I stick to chain as it dampens the movement of the gong

There isn’t any movement with the Steel Target Co. design.

Don't weld, and have the target cut with something that doesn't (overly) compromise the cutting area.

Bolts through, add washer on shooting face if desired, to act as sacrificial material. Chain, or maybe you'd prefer rubber (conveyor belt etc like said) will attach in the back of the target. This will place the gong so that splatter is away from the attachment (including beams and such). You might want to add extra nut on the back of the target, to gain more angle.

You do talk Rubbish.....
I weld chain to my Gong still going strong after 7 years AR450 @25mm thick.

Old fire hose and cheap low tensile bolts or whatever they are called, the soft ones absorb impact. I’ve had the same hose on the same targets for 10 years now. Had 20 folk out on one day and the only failure was when I forgot to put a washer between the hose and bolt. The hose goes on the back of the gong.
