Trail cam

I’m looking for a trail cam - one that reports back to my phone. I’m leaning towards zeiss but also the Hik.
Obviously reliability is a top priority. As is quality
What’s the best out there?

I'm currently using Hik, started with 6 now 8 months old and no issues 🤞. Just ordered another 12 and although other people aren't as keen on them from what I've read they're doing alright for what I need/want.
The only thing I've found is when setting them up the instructions are abit wild!
However in my opinion they are spot on.
Hope this helps.

I have 3 zeiss secacam 3, so far so good. Easy to set up and good photos. Sc were doing a show deal at £100 each, can't go wrong really.

Quite happy with my Secacam5, especially as it was a prize...
The AI species recognition is a bit hit and miss, but that's a bit of a gimmick anyway.
However, the AI colour the night function has come on line this week2025-02-18_20-31-41.jpg

That is using the strap provided, I have use a piece of stick to set the angle as the right tree is not at the right angle

Have had the Zeiss Secacam 5 for a while now- can’t really find fault with it. Once I figured out the initial set up 👍👍

HIK are big lumps compared to the Spypoint I was previously using and the App is poor - instructions make no sense so it's easy to fiddle with settings and end up eating batteries. They do send photos immediately they are taken though (regardless of setting) which is different to Spypoint where they are sent on a schedule of every 2/4/6hrs etc. Can't speak for Zeiss in that regard. My HIK is fine but I wouldn't have another.

Question for the Secacam users please - can you set an active schedule on the Secacam so it only takes photos at certain times of day? Helpful for fox bait spots so it only take pics at night and doesn't use up your photo allowance on crows and magpies!

Yes, you can set operating schedule on Secacam, have had camera around 12 months, on 3 rd set of batteries now, camera out 24/7 , so battery life is quite good, £8 a month for up to 750 photos and 20 videos

I have 2x Secacam 3s and they go through batteries stupidly quick. I’ve now got both on Zeiss Solar Panel Minis and I’ve never touched them since.
How fast are we talking for the batteries to run out?

I've been trying to research Cellular cams for a while now and with my price point and needs in mind narrowed it down to the Secacam 3 and the Spypoint FLEX-M, looking into those two I have read not great things about the Spypoint and so was leaning towards the Secacam 3.

Besides the issue with battery are you generally happy with the other aspects of the cam?

Depends on usage and temperature. I was changing them every couple of weeks, when temperatures were fluctuating night & day.

They are truly fit and forget with a solar panel on.

The image quality is amazing from them. Easy to use and setup too

I have had my Secacam 5 since September 2024. I am just coming to the end of my 3 rd set of batteries. Power bar just started to drop.

Careful what you wish for and where you place it, my friend was surprised and how pictures he was sent of a magpie in a larsen (set to see who was smashing them) and another with grass blowing in the wind

I've had 2 Spypoint solar 4G cameras out for nearly 3 years with no intervention or battery problems. Moved quickly to their Club premium subscription providing unlimited photos for £80 a year. This morning I had 24 pictures! Beauty of the unlimited plan is simply deleting any false triggers and being able to catch that fleeting shot. Very happy with mine :thumb:
