Teal on the 20th

Last chance for a good few months, a few things have got in the way since Xmas so made the effort this morning, decent wind also far less cold than the last couple of weeks! Small tide so the birds will just sit it out! there is a small pool that always has water so I dropped the decoys in pegged the cord holder in knowing they will float up once the tide starts to make. First bird came through turning into the wind and tipped his wing for his last look! That was how it went for the next 2 1/2 hrs to make a total of 12 which is a very good flight, I made a couple of phone calls during that time and found homes for all the duck.
Toby did very well in the sticky mud, I shot well with the 32gm 4's with only 3 out of the 12 had a bit of go left in them with Toby on them asap.
Videos have a lot of wind noise but that can't be helped.

Thank you, had some good days out on the mud, my Dad and Granddad loved it from the tales he told me,
It suits my nature of shooting with what was passed down from those two looking down from above.
I never got to go out on the marsh with Dad but he would sit and listen puffing on a roll up with a tear in his eye thinking of his Dad and if I was quite a bit later than I said he was not happy lol

The things we do for pleasure...
Thanks for posting, Tim. Brings back lots of very happy memories of earlier, and younger, years.

Most welcome, I can remember riding home on my bike aged 11 crying as I had lost my ferret!
Dad brought me 10 hemp nets and a ferret for my birthday (April) so spent time with some drain pipes we made up in the garden also I had been with him and his mate ferreting the previous winter so had a bit of an idea but she killed a rabbit and laid up so I thought I had lost her. 😓
Only a small earth but lost is lost, went in his van with a small graft he dug it back and there she was 😁
FWD 25 years had one lay up in Suffolk way deep so put the box on up side down where we last saw her covered it with loads of earth and branches then went back the next day.. I had the finder on in my pocket and it was clicking as we got to the box, Dads turn to cry bless.

Love being out on the mud. The tay is my go to place nothing better than out there on a crisp winters morning watching the sun rise and sound of the birds wakeningup . It's a long treck back to motor so just a few geese is all I take now. Made the mistake a few times of shooting 1 to many canada. Feel like a broken man by time get back to motor 🤣

My mistake was trying to carry six, and all my gear, on a bike. Spectacular forward roll into the ditch. Luckily, for the sake of my dignity, no witnesses.
