Im in the process of applying for a FAC, i have seen online that basc have a rifle safe shot theory test for free online, is it worth doing this and showing it to the FEO when he comes and does the visit? Or do they not recognize it? I have a friend who's willing to vouch that im a safe shot aswell as i have been going with him quite regularly in the years leading upto the application, so im hoping with the 2 things above and the fact im a shotgun cert holder for 16 years things might go smoothly 🤞

What is in post #2 would be my approach, which will tie up with your friends account of your trips.

If it is a free on line course why dont you just do it?? Regardless of whether your FEO is impressed or not it will give you confidence that you are a safe shot (or not as the case may be!).

If you are interesting in shooting then it will probably be time well spent and you will hopefully enjoy the experience.

Yeah half an hour will be well spent either way and if the feo isnt impressed atleast it shows ive tried lol

mate, I'd never heard of it but have just done it
it takes like 5 mins and if you don't get 100% you probably really do need some training,
you could have done it in less time than it took to post this

Good call!

You can add it to your portfolio of experience .... every little helps in my opinion.

Seriously though it would be well worth posting your thoughts on it ... if it is interesting then other new rifle shooters may be encouraged to do it just for their own education, amusement etc.

Fair play, it's a bit niche and I was helped by the fact i have a 15 year old so know the rules

He can and does shoot
shotgun at game or clays - no problem
.233 L98A2 Cadet rifle at human shaped target with cadets - no problem
.22 semi-auto the Club indoor range - no problem
9mm Action rifle (Hostage w/victim flipping targets) - no problem
.308 at steels at the Club outdoor range - no problem

but cannot shoot an estate rifle at either a target or deer in an empty field
that would be illegal and highly dangerous
unless he has his own FAC (how does a 15y.o. get his own permissions to get game on his FAC?)

We are just not a serious country with rules like this

All of the situations you mentioned above that he is ok to shoot are controlled situations, likely with an RO in place, shooting a deer or targets in a field unaccompanied, or even accompanied, are not.

You ask one of your permissions to give him permission, it’s simple as that.
