So, after having JAK for a while now I thought I had better let everyone know how I have got on.
JAK has been out with me a number of times since he has been in my care. Everytime I venture out with him in my pocket I am ever so slightly paranoid that I will loose him, luckily this is not the case!
The first of the two most memorable occasions I have been out with JAK was a weekend morning stalk at home with my son (4.5yr old). I have been trying to introduce him to stalking and to where venison/ meat come from and why we do it. He is keen, which is a relief, to learn and help out were he can. We had stalked through the woods to our high seat for the morning, overlooking some birch re gen and got settled in. Not long after scanning around with the thermal, I spotted a doe and a yearling about 50m away. Whilst I waited for a shot to present, my son watched through his binoculars. When the moment came I managed to grass the pair. After waiting a while we climbed down and went to find our prizes. Both had not gone far. Whilst I gralloched them (with JAK) I explained what I was doing and he looked on with interest. This was the first time he had been out on a successful stalk, and hopefully first of many.
