Living in the shadows.

Easy said than done when
1. You have to contend with right to roam
2. The ground your shooting is also a fruit farm on outskirts of town with a very popular coffee shop on site.

Very popular with dog walkers

Despite that the fruit and asparagus fair brings in deer ....lot was fenced off but said Apex predator who thinks they have rights to roam instead of responsible access take Umbridge to fences and kick em down so they can walk where want

Not everyone can shoot in middle of nowhere with miles of roaming woodland and no bu55er there

Paul
Some valid points but Sevenoaks is hardy the "middle of nowhere"!

You don't have right to roam and folk still trespass I get it

My point being sometimes not being spotted whilst your hunting on this small island is nigh on impossible

If ypu can avoid cockwombles on your permission good for you & count yourself lucky ... not everyone is afforded same luck

Paul.

Used to stalk in a very high amenity area, there was always someone popping out of the bushes or hanging around when I was taking stuff out of or putting stuff into the car. Most of them were lovely. One or two were not so nice. We dealt with it.

I just don’t understand the culture of secrecy some of you adopt around your possession and use of firearms.
If there was any correlation between firearms possession and increased risk of burglary or break, in the insurance companies would be all over it like a rash, so the increased risk would appear to exist almost totally in the imaginations of some FEO”s and FAC holders.
Here, it’s a fair assumption that any rural dwelling will contain a firearm of some sort. Guess what? No one cares and no one deliberately targets dwellings looking for firearms.
The lengths that some of you are willing to go to to maintain secrecy are a potentially counter productive.
People will never get used to sharing the countryside, or their neighbourhood, with firearms users if we never reveal ourselves.

Did a zero check on our rifles and had a bit of a play before driving round rest of the farm.
It's open to the public through the day and has camping. Coming into the car park on our way out there's a guy with his lad walking around (trying to tire the young (5 ish) lad out). I had my rifle over my shoulder as I opened the gate from the field. Young lad starts asking about the rifle, but is rather apprehensive. So I showed him it was empty, that no I wasn't allowed to shoot "bad people in masks". But told him why we were there. We showed him my wicked light showing the sheep in the field a few hundred yards away. Then showed him with my lads thermal. Turned out Dad did a bit of shooting when he was younger, and the young lad had a good experience with another Dad and Lad who happen to shoot.
I was careful at first with questions like were we staff, just because I don't want to cause PR issues for my mate business. But I think hiding what we do is counter productive if we want to be accepted as part of countryside management. Over the years I have been assaulted, abused, told I was getting "done" etc. But for the most part I have had conversations that have hopefully informed and got acceptance of what we did and why we did it.

Lots of interesting comments on the posting.
Im glad to hear there's folk going about their business without hindrance.
But to further emphasise my point I've had two instances since the original post that add weight to my observations.
Firstly I've been asked to remove any squirrel traps from areas that might be likely to be found by the public, the reason being, people don't like the idea of traps.
Secondly no shooting around the more public places on weekends, reason people don't like gun shot sounds.
FYI, this is an internal conflict within my place of employment; the tourism department want my activities hidden (I'm a ranger for the forestry department)
So I belive rural activities, especially shooting are dumbed down and kept secret from the masses.
We are hiding in the shadows!
