Releasing non native species to hunt

European brown bear, especially in the home counties please. Not for shooting as much as making people sit up and realise to be cautious and respectful of nature.

Would like to have European bison and elk too.

Would also be nice if we could get grouse and capercaillie back in the south. Acres of heather moor and heath which they historically were present on. Perhaps a bear population might keep the public and their dogs away and then it's just a case of fox and vermin control...

Nothing added ! Nothing to be taken away! ( just put an annual check on numbers ) If a certain species is removed from the list , it should be reviewed every year and suspended, if serious numbers fall badly stopping shooting etc for a further 12 months .
Bringing in Animals , Birds , fish that have not been here naturally in the previous 100 years should be the standard . We have lots of Native Birds, Fish and other game that needs better care for them to survive in the UK - then we step up . Bringing new stuff in when our eco system is struggling should not happen . For Example Beavers, Wolves , Lynx etc. etc

Careful what you wish for!
And don’t try to feed them by hand…

Releasing an animal with the express purpose of then killing it has no justification.

And yes, this could apply to game birds that are reared in captivity and then released.
I agree in the sense of releasing an animal with the express intention of killing that one, such as released pheasants. In my theoretical musings I was thinking of a population that would be self sustaining and could be hunted with restrictions (as I mentioned in an earlier post).

Not UK but in Sweden both the eurasian boar and the gray wolf were more or less gone 150 years ago but reintroduced in modern times. Many regret wolfs again and there is a daily struggle with them all over. With boar a new hunting experience has arrived and with little regret. Boar hunting is all year and 24 hrs. The population needs extensive culling. A sow gives 5-6 new ones every year to the (hunting) world.

As a side note in Finland one will find more than 100 000 White Tails. This deer was brought from Minnesota in the 1930's by emigrants from Finland who felt sorry for the emptiness in the forests of their native country. White Tail is rather popular now that they get along well with moose and roe/fallow deer.

For UK getting rid of feral boar and reintroduce pure eurasian wild boar would lift the hunting challenge but there are surely other opinions ...

Seems pretty abhorrent to me to want to introduce anything for the sole purpose of then killing it. That's not how a countryman views wildlife.
The more quarry to hunt , all the better in my eyes being a hunter 🥰
