The Ruger, yea was looking at that, am actually heading there in the next day or so looking at a shotgun, will give it a feel whilst there. There’s a brand new Ruger .220 Swift in McBrides in Athlone. I was half tempted. I’d say it’s the only one in the country that’s new.
The op best stick to 223. I've got two. As to being bored of 223. It's a excellent cal.
Not saying it isnt, never had any issues with it, does the job that it is ment to do, I just get no enjoyment out of it, want something light and not too loud, ammo cost not an issue, well anything over €3 a shot and id have to think about it.
Just want something new and flashy to make myself feel good, nothing wrong with that![]()

It’s strong money but it’s a Swift! I had one for 15 years, until the groups started to open up, but I put a lot of rounds through it. The only thing is there’s only about 3 types of ammo for it. But everyone needs to experience a .220 Swift a dome stage in their lives! The Ruger, yea was looking at that, am actually heading there in the next day or so looking at a shotgun, will give it a feel whilst there.
I dont have deer license and have 308, put down vermin control and target shooting and they gave me it no issue. Doing HCAP next month so will be updating license for this. But Gardai around me are sound, my FO is a hunter himself so bit more on the lenient side. It’s strong money but it’s a Swift! Will your firearms Garda let you have anything a pice a Swift for foxes. I think .22/250 and above you need a deer hunting license? You do in my area anyways.
He’s sound so, if you want a “bigger calibre”, over my side. You have to show either a deer license or proof you are in a target club.I dont have deer license and have 308, put down vermin control and target shooting and they gave me it no issue. IFA/Deer Alliance is doing it. Have permission for deer so may aswell get the license in case I ever want to go out stalking. He’s sound so, if you want a “bigger calibre”, over my side. You have to show either a deer license or proof you are in a target club.
Where are you doing the HCAP, what provider is doing it? I think the NARGC isn’t doing as many going forward, I could be totally wrong with that statement. My FO was happy to do a straight swap with .220 Swift to a .308, he’s sound too.
Just out of interest, what reasoning did you give for needing that between the 223 & 243?In other news I have a 22-250 inbound

Thanks for suggestion, but looking for a centrefire250 ft I would think 17 HMR or 22 Magnum would be sufficient.
Yeah because Tikka use the one action , Sako etc made smaller actions and corresponding stocks as do / did most manufacturers . 17 rem wont be any lighter in the Tikka stock and actionLooking for a new foxing caliber, have tikka 223 that is great but boring to use and heavy to lug about. Looking for something slightly lighter.
Sadly since no reloading in the South of Ireland it will have to be something I can scrounge factory ammo for.
17rem looks fun and local rfd has some ammo in stock.
90% of my shooting is 250feet or less.
Happy to hear any and all suggestions ty.
