Leupold QRW mounting problem

A while ago I bought a set of QR rings from SD so I could swap a scope between my .22 and air rifle . I bought 2 picatinny rails for the rifles but to my disbelief the leupold rings in the picture won’t tighten onto the rail as they are to big , what rail should I have bought . 🤷‍♂️I thought they were all the same and when I looked for a wider picatinny there all 21mm .
Thanks for any advice .

Interesting. What rails are you fitting them to? I use the same mounts on all my rifles and they seem fine

It was a cheap rail and that must be the problem , leupold gear is good that’s why I bought the rings and I’m keen to fit them , it might just be the case of buying a more expensive rail .

You don't clearly state what the problem is. There's tiny chance you can work around the problem. Would buy quality rails though, even if you get the cheap ones working there could be problem with zero retention etc.

Picatinny rail has a spec, but even known big name manufacturers are seldom abiding to it. That usually doesn't cause a problem, unless you're using QD mount on several different rails. Or a non-adjustable QD mount that conforms to the spec. In these cases problem is, the QD mount is too loose or tight in one rail or several.

Weaver doesn't have a generally accepted spec. Usual problem is, it has narrower grooves for recoil lug and picatinny mounts won't fit. Or there are only few grooves and you cannot place the mount / rings where you want based on the scope tube length, eye relief etc.

Chinese crap can be anything.

Succes. The Leupold QRW rings, I tried where not repeatbale at all. Push forward when mounting, levers allways in same position and up to 2" of shift in impact.
Not at all comparable to a good Innomount system.

The picatinny rail tightened onto the dovetail no bother - the QRW base when tightened onto the picatinny is still loose . As there is no recoil from a .22 or an air rifle I wasn’t going to spend a fortune on a picatinny as I thought there’s no need and a lot of the picatinny rails were around the same price . I’ve bought Chinese crap as you say but didn’t ever think there would be that much of a difference .

Quoting didn't work, answering to Bugsy in #12 (he's added the message to quote of my previous message).

Yes I buy Chinese crap also, it has it's places. Sounds like there was major problem with your rails. Usually the QRW style design, where you use bolts instead of QD levers, will work since it tightens on variable width rails. But in your case the scope rings bottomed out before tightening since the rail was so narrow.

I would send the rails back as not fit for purpose.

I had a set of Britannia QD rings and they clamped on but there to high so I’m going for the cheap way out of this and bought a low set as I know they will fit , it’s only for a .22 so surely they will be good enough . 🙏

It was to much hassle to send them back , I’ll sell on the Leupold mounts . Disappointed as I would rather have used them instead of Britannia rings . Thanks . 👍

Not lucky just probably got a more expensive picatinny , mine are cheap , cheapest way out for me was an another pair of rings .
