Bringing shotgun from Cyprus to UK

Hi everyone

I want to bring my granddads shotgun over from Cyprus to the UK (will be putting it into my name and keeping it)

The signing over isn’t an issue, was wondering what case do you bring them over in (heard has to be a pressurised case) anyone got a link for them ?

I will be flying with British airways and I believe they do allow it (in the correct case)


Anything else to look out for ?

Forgot to add this shotgun originally started life in the UK (when was new my granddad bought it in England then when retired in Cyprus took it over with him)

From BA:
You must contact us at least 72 hours before your flight to request approval; if you fail to notify us, you will not be able to travel with your equipment.

You’ll need to provide the following information:

• The airports that you are flying from and to
• The number of firearms you wish to transport
• The type (handgun, rifle, shotgun)
• The make/model and calibre
• The quantity (in weight) and calibre of ammunition

Probably best to put the request in when I’m out there and buy a case out there

Only one type of case in my experience - Pelican (or other brands from the same stable).

At best the handlers will treat the case with indifference, at worse it’ll get singled out for a beating…

Assuming the gun is double barrelled & can be broken down then you don’t need a full sized case, just one long enough to take the barrels & wide enough to take barrels & stock. You can often find these at reasonable prices on eBay.

If BA still take sporting equipment for free, rather than charging for a case as excess or additional baggage, I’d consider buying something in the UK, putting a cheap kids fishing rod in it & taking it with you. Then chuck the fishing rod & bring the gun back in it! Make sure you have three pieces of foam in the case including one you can cut to shape for the gun to go in the middle - plenty of advice on where to get that on the forum.

Also, make sure that you have padlocks for the case & it never hurts to have some duck tape to wrap around it - extra precaution against it ‘accidentally’ coming open & also a tell tale if the case has been opened.

I always put cable ties on my case as well as the lock on the case so carry plenty of spare ones.
Flying with BA is the most expensive airline to use when carrying firearms so be ready for £150.00 for the firearm and £50 handling charge, don't bring any ammunition or that will also require a solid case and another £150.00

That’s fine, for me will be nice to have my granddads shotgun

Some people say Easyjet is better to deal with than BA over firearms. Might be worth a look.
