Skinning rail mounting into my new shed

Hi All,

I am about to build a new purpose built skinning and butchery shed and I need to attach a skinning rail into the roof of the shed

Pic of the shed roof is below and I am hoping to attach a scaffold pole on to which I can hang deer using my S hooks.

I am looking at different options for how to mount it, but would welcome any good ideas from others who have adapted a shed such as the one in the pic

Thx

That roof structure won't support any additional load. It's questionable how long it'll even support the roof.
You'll need a supporting frame independent of the structure of the shed to carry your rail.

This is my current set up and I have no issues putting a lot of weight on the rail:

I would look at the Key Clamp fitting range as I hang reds on their 33mm od tube

If the wood that is there is strong enough to hold the weight of a deer. Screw a horse tie ring to that and attach a manual pulley winch to tie ring- works ok for me in the garage .

I’m mainly shooting cwd, munties and the odd roe. Very occasionally fallow, so not huge weight.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but the shed in your first pic looks like one of those flat-pack wooden garden sheds that you can buy as readymade panels and then screw all the panels together to erect your shed. Albeit one of the higher spec models, as evidenced by the boarded ceiling.
Am I right there?
If so I can assure you, from past experience, it won't hold additional weight. Your shed will very quickly take on the appearance of a Chinese pagoda.

As Tim suggests, if the roof timbers leave something to be desired, construct an elevated internal support structure for the primary hanger from fore-and-aft positioned scaffold tubes, using Key Clamp to keep it locked together.

With imagination and a good hacksaw you might even replace the horizontal bar/tube with an RSJ that would make positioning of your hoisting tackle-slung deer a lot more pleasurable. Particular so if the RSJ extends to the outside above your shed door.

I think this might be ideal.
I can create two sort of A frames for either end that run up the inside of the wall / roof and then link them with a cross bar which becomes the skinning rail. This frame wouldn’t pull on any element of the shed.

The do loads of fittings and one with a Hook 42mm 182-C42 Buy Key Clamps Online for your hooks

have a look at Uni-strut - you can get it in stainless steel which is expensive, or standard galvanised - and it comes in different strengths.
