low offers on Thermals

You could take a shot five minutes before last light, although legal by a fag paper that deer runs and you have hardly any sign at the shot site, you’re in a muddle all so all praise the thermal😂
[/QUOTE.. spot on 😁but I’ve a better tool than a thermal when shooting just on dark when they stags appear .. it’s called a Mutt .. daft as a brush but he’s got some nose on him when it comes to long grass or amongst trees . 😉With a HAND HELD thermal and a good mutt it makes shooting just on dark a lot easier . 👍

Who said I shot it at night ya divot .. I used a hand held thermal to spot it .. then I shot it .. who mentioned anything about night shooting , you shouldn’t really write incriminating things and jump to stupid conclusions . Think before you jump in . 😁👊
You literally said “last night”, posting a photo which looks like it was taken in darkness. If you didn’t shoot them in darkness it must’ve been a troublesome gralloch…

Try not to resort to insults, I’d doesn’t portray you in a particularly good light (or dark, depending upon when you choose to shoot deer).

The gralloch is on the hill .. I don’t do “suspended “ ones .. the heads and feet you see in the trailer are what comes off once I get back to the pickup .. I then go back up the hill and throw them in my “foxy pile” . Quite easy to understand if you shoot a few .. any time your up my way give me a bell and I’ll introduce you to the way thousands of stalkers do it .. no charge .. and you can take the clean carcass with you . And … wait for it .. 😉all within daylight hrs . 👍

Ebay is a good way of establishing prices as its an auction site.

Equally technology is moving on or at least the advertising is. New manufacturers or at least labels are selling at lower prices with a warranty, will they be here in the future to service the warranty - that's a gamble.

I’ve had one of my thermals for 7-8 years now , it’s a xq38 and my spare and it’s been brilliant , strong and robust and someone selling a clean conditioned one on here would in my thoughts be a good buy . You’ll pick up an XP50 on here for the right money .

Used it last night. S/Hand xq38f

it is simple. if you think the person is asking way too much, walk away. if a little too much make an offer, if way too little, be wary its probably a scam these days

..
My mate is a keen air gunner and pings crows and rabbits , I gave him my xq38 as I don’t need it just now and he’s over the moon with it 😁 he can’t believe the difference it’s made to picking off rabbits that he probably wouldn’t see with his binos . 🤷‍♂️hope I can get it back 😁

8 was still legal shooting light!
It’s a ‘cultural thing’ - a’ two nations divided by a common language’ scenario - many of us up here speak of ‘last night’ to others meaning yest’re’en, only this latter term isn’t much in the parlance south of the wall.

This is true Mealiejimmy, however taking a risk with no warrenty as far as im concerned warrents a lowball figure, so guess folk need to do their research before buying one then expecting to offload it 6 months later for as new price with zero warrenty,

the warranty is transferable on most top brands . if you can't afford what the seller is asking then look for a cheaper model

My own Quantum xq38 was out of warranty when I bought it from a longstanding member on this site, and I paid around double what they typically fetch today; maybe both parties were fortunate, I certainly had zero regrets, and eventually resold it a good few years later, only because newer models came out which had the same compact form but with a better sensor and built in LRF.

Bruce’s maxim for electronics, that if it doesn’t go wrong in the first month or two, then it’s generally unlikely to do so thereafter has been borne out in my own experience, and whilst I can understand the reticence of some for used equipment and/or the ‘comfort’ of a decent warranty on any new bought item, these usually have to be paid for somehow, and again generally speaking, any product with issues isn’t long on the go before this gets noticed.

Aside from this, we have to recognise that somewhere along the line basic household- and politically determined economics, and the prospect of a maturing market leading potentially toward saturation for such (generally speaking) specialised equipment also play their part in shaping their realistic resale price achievable over time.
