The out yesterday or today thread and...

Whilst checking the 222 this morning I also got the 457 in 17 HMR fitted the the pard ds and zeroed ready for winter frolics.
Good combination.
I shot it to 230yds today with good results and took these to varmints off seed, behind the camera. Also there was fox prints on the seeded field!

Received a WhatsApp pic yesterday from the farmer telling me 130 corvids and 70 pigeons on a recently drilled field of mixed legumes.

I said I would have a look today. Hide set up with a stiff wind in my back and birds started coming immediately.

Non stop shooting from 11am to 5pm .

Also watched a buzzard pounce on a woodie that dropped around 100 yds out.

Brilliant day ending on 180 for 250 carts 👍

Cracking job there mate 👍

After getting the flintlock dirty yesterday I went out this morning on a trek about.
Stalked a few rabbits but they kept beating me.
The first light and misty valleys were awesome. Eventually I entered a tree line that I needed to brash out windblown so set to it. Eventually a squirrel mouthed off profanity at me so that was that!

But the best thing I saw today was a hornet hunting in tall grass and pounce on a small copper. I tried to photograph it but as I was getting the camera close it flew off. It had dismantled the butterfly in seconds!
Good times.

Can't wait to have a mooch on the squirrels once the leaves are off.

Love it when a squizzer gives you a mouthful of abuse 😘

I have been cutting rides today for the beaters - we had a great day at it yesterday with lads from the shoot - but i was up early and want to watch the footy later so thought i would carry on the other side of the woods - anyway i saw 1 then 2 then 3 hornets so made a hasty retreat !

Scary little buggers aren't they?
Amazing to observe though. In spring, or was it the one before... anyway it was dry and a hornet landed in front of me on a low ash tree wand. I watched it pierce the thin bark with it's jaws and drink the sap!!

To be honest they scare the proverbial out of me!
Few years back I broke the 100yd sprint record when we stumbled on a nest.

Yeah at night they are crawling all over the nest. Horrible little bastards but fascinating.
Where it get you?

Where did they not get me !

Had me a couple of times tbh - the most painful was right on the finger end - my trigger finger - honestly i was squirming around on the ground in a puddle in proper agony - I do add i am a wimp ! - but honestly the pain was unbelievable

As the pain from that eventually eased i realised i had been hammered all over - my head - arse - back
Over the next few hours i blew up like a balloon and the wife took me to the hospital - as i waited for 4 hours as fast as i blew up - i shrank back down - so cancelled any further " treatment' - (waiting) and went home
Im not really one for hospitals / doctors unless i really hurt myself - but that night was an eye opener as i watched people who had seemingly come to A and E for a night out - as they sat and chatted / played on social media and emptied the vending machines of chocolate and crisps !

You witnessed broken Britain!
All via hornets!
Bastards. The hornets as well...

I know this thread is not about deer before it gets mentioned but had a buck on last light last night.

Today I thought I would go for a wander with the shotgun to see if any squirrels about , not very hopeful as all the leaves still on but with thousands of acorns littering the floor I thought I might see some.

Anyway literally nothing about , I only saw 2 squirrels.

But I dropped a cracking magpie at 70 paces with a pellet to the head , which made my day.

I was out with a mate of mine tonight foxing and we both had a misfire on the same fox what are the chances of that couldn’t believe it 🤬

I knew the buck rabbits would be out in the early sun after last night's drenching so went n got two.

I then went on a scout and some crows dropped into some pasture.
I called it at 150yds and held over so and added a bit of windage.

It's wing tip is pointing atthe firing point.
CCI subsonic.

Squirrel shooting this afternoon with a muzzleloader, it's a .45 smoothbore and 60gn of fine powder and 1oz of shot gets your attention!. 50gn and 3/4 Oz is sweeter.
Anyway, ended up with five for five so not bad. The smoke hung on the air lovely with the autumn low sun throwing hues of grey and the aroma of charcoal and sulphur, larrrvley.
