Air rifles in a "junk shop"?

Popped into a junk shop today (always on the lookout for bargains)
One section had about half a dozen over priced air rifles and pistols .
Can these be sold by a non RFD?

What was more concerning, was that to see what was there I could have cocked and loaded them all if I had a few .177 pellets in my pocket!

The wording is such that pre-1939 air weapons are exempt from a person selling them "by way of trade or business" to have an air weapons RFD and the shop may indeed anyway have such. Not all RFDs are authorised for s1 and/or s2 just as not all RFDs are authorised for s5.

the clue is in the title, air rifles are not firearms, and i could go into any gun shop with a pocket full of cartridges or bullets and handle a shotgun or a rifle,
Sorry, could have worded that better! Should you be prohibited under section 21 of the firearms act, you are not even allowed to be in possession of an air rifle or air rifle ammunition (pellets)

Can still buy air rifles in our local toy shop.
I believe the owner does have to be an rfd, but I'm not certain about that. Just a vague recollection of a conversation I had with him some years ago.

Air rifles are legally classed as firearms but those below the energy limits do not require a licence to possess.
