To be fair I wouldn't worry one little bit about damaging a landrover...one step away from breaking down@Foxybo,y43 a keeper friend of mine, many years ago, kept seeing a feral cat around one particular wood. Always had the wrong gun with him IE cat in undergrowth he had a rifle, cat sat far away watching him he'd have a shotguncame back to his Land rover one morning after feeding round to see cat sat on the spare wheel upon the bonnet. Risking the windscreen he gave it an ounce of 6's,it ran and he managed to catch up with it and end things.
He's been dead 12/15 years now so any negative comments from us won't bother him.

No issue with anyone shooting feral cats ...just very difficult to tell a feral from someones pet at times.

Don’t mind me asking but why was the fox on top of the pickup?
Just curious like…

Ahah!Thats a good point...The rifle was rested on top of the pickup and the fox was in the field ...I know I own a creed but since the fox was shot with a .243 will you lot stop being so picky ...cant cope

Yes, the farmer opened it when he dropped it off. A fair amount had gone when I called down this morning, the camera picked up a lot of activity around 2:30 am so it looks as if it’s turned the corner. Thanks for all the repliesDid you open up the carcass so they can start working on it?
I find it's a little early to bait with a whole carcass the size of a muntjac or roe (I've no access to sheep); wait until the weather gets a little harder, and all the easy small stuff has disappeared, and they will be on it.

Good result mate and well done on retrieving the soggy foxDecided to head out at home last night as the dog has been kicking off a fair bit lately and she doesnt like foxes. Usual plan is to head up the lane and onto one of the neighbours ground then head back and cover our place and 2 farms the bottom side. Half way up the lane and check in the thermal and theres one fox on the bank top side the house and one down below me...both in awkward spots and despite a stint with the caller neither were interested. Decided to change my plans and headed back down the lane and onto the neighbours the bottom side of our ground.
Picked up a fox crossing the field and stopped him with a squeak at about 100 yards and dropped him on the spot off the sticks. Reload, rifle slung and check with the thermal so I can go get him and hes got up and just heading into cover?????? Checked the scope footage and shot looked good but despite 10 mins of looking I could find the fox. However theres 2 streams that meet and a load of cover so I headed back this morning to find a rather soggy fox.

At this point I was tempted to go back to where I started and carry on up to the top ground but this was interrupted by the sound of fox fighting on another farm about 500 yards away. Off through a couple of fields and a small wood and couldn't see anything. Quick wander to a spot where I could watch the corner of the wood and spotted a very odd thermal signature that looked like a fox ear and a bit of head...surely not. Quick scan and there's a fox heading out of the wood. Set up the sticks and realise that I was correct and it was a foxes ear as there are now 2 foxes. The one who was lying down turns away from me a lies back down,. I was about 50 yards away so shot the first in the back of the head and quickly got onto the second and dropped him to a chest shot. 2 dogs. Another fruitless hour and a couple of miles and back home by 10.30.
Now I appreciate there have been some comments generally on SD about people who shoot foxes and some are a bit unkind...to those who have those opinions ...well f**k off![]()

Nicely done as well yourself mate. The moon came out after I trekked up the lane..reckon the shine of my bald head would have scared anything within 1/2 mileGood result mate and well done on retrieving the soggy fox
It was like daylight here last night so I headed off with the HMR to thin out a few hares that are on the new crops coming through.
Most were shot around the 90 - 100 yd mark so thought I would test the BC and shot one at 155 yds
