Which Secondhand Pickup?

At the end of the day you will get all the horror stories and all the great bits depending how lucky people have been ! , in this day and age there is no such thing as a bad pick up they can all have niggles , just do your homework
Old Navaras had chassis issues if not looked after , rangers have belt trouble if not serviced regularly, etc
See what is in your budget and available within reasonable distance

Hi Lux or L200

Stay away from 2010- 2019 Navaras
2020 Rangers have some issues too , power steering or air-conditioning belt goes its a whole.engine rebuild also has electrical issues.
Isuzu is basically a Ranger and so are a few other brands .

I would watch what tyres you choose for some brands too as anything all terrain can effect the ball joints and drive shafts or like the Navara the suspension.

Only issue I find with Mtsibushi is getting parts , my one is now out of warranty and due to Brexit they moved out the UK and dont look like they will come back, so when getting parts it has to come from Holland absolute nightmare.

Hilux is hard to get a cheap one and stay away from 2015 to 2020 models as the so called "invinsibles" had engine issues and handling is poor.

Also look at the weight of the pick up you choose. You might find as with Ford Ranger you can only do commercial speed limits like 50 in a 60 or 60 in a 70 , alot of people got caught on cameras because of that. L200 is fine as its 2400kg not above 2500kg it can be a bit of a headache.

My Nissan Navara king cab of course. 2013 reg, 87k miles, MOT until October 2026, bfg at tyres, towbar,1 owner from new, 2 keys, full service history, only £ 6850!

The weight limit for pick ups is 2040kg, any higher than that and you have the lower speed limits, not 2500kg.

Your correct sorry got my figures mixed up lol

And I noticed the list didn't say Mits L200 as it is no longer sold in the UK but its under

That’s a bit of an eye opener 😳

I wonder how many drivers that regularly zap around on single & dual carriageway A roads will realise that they are limited to 10mph less than everyone else as they head towards that speed camera van in the lay-by ahead!

The speed limits are a bit frustrating, when so many cars are over this weight yet not restricted.

No problem if you are running an old LR Defender as 50MPH is simply "good practice"!

Friend of mine, 56 mph on the A811 near Kippen, SP 30, 3 points.
In a Ford Ranger.
The new Ranger has all the tech built in and will let you know if your over the speed limit on any uk road one touch of the speed limiter and you good.
Unless it’s tuned off 😂

Doesn’t help to OP but it look like the Dmax is getting an engine refresh next year.

On paper it’s not a massive jump but flatter torque curve and more fuel efficient.

I was looking at an order this year but think I’ll hold off to see what ‘26 brings.

This bent chassis caper is also seen here down under. It's not rust...no salt on our roads - no snow. It happens from undulating roads and overloading the tub/tray with big weights south of the rear axle.

The D40 shown in your photos hasn't been made for a decade. Mine was underbody waxed regularly and was solid when I sold it after owning it for over 10 years. Only chassis I ever saw snap was on an Isuzu which had a very hard life, regularly launching a dive boat.
They were absolutely shocking 😂
The earlier d22 nav had engine issues, predominantly big end bearings however its only a days graft to sort out.

Any earlier vehicle, especially jap and ford rot for the laughs. They say on a quiet night, you can hear a ford rusting 👀

All motors have their own issues and most of them are pretty bad issues. Only one I'd pick is the Isuzu out of the modern line up

Our experience clearly differs.

Have a Look at a s hand Ineos quartermaster. Not many about but prices are coming down. Carrying load weight (legally) is limited compared to some other pick ups due to their otr weight from being over built.

I Just got a s hand grenadier station wagon which I’m pretty happy with.
