Out last night.

#68

Ventured out yesterday afternoon to a hill farm in the driving wind and rain relying on the forecast, rain to clear by 6pm.

Spoke to the farmer " you're keen " he said .

He said there was a few about and to crack on and get them sorted.

Anyway forecast was right , rain cleared but still windy and thermal conditions not great as everywhere was soaking.

We saw a few foxes but wouldn't play ball , often on a mission out on the fell.

Anyway eventually I spotted a fox hunting down the side of the forestry so we set up a good 400 yds away , hare in distress call playing and slowly but surely this fox cautiously made its way within range...a decent dog fox.

Just bought a thermion LRF, although not really much use on the CF, I used it on my .22LR last night and it worked a peach, longest rabbit was 121m, but had loads in the 80-90 range, my friend had his .222 we ended up with 36 and a fox.
Why do you think the thermion is no good on a CF mate ?

Out again with the .22lr with the LRF, had 17 bunnies and this guy at 62 meters bullet went through his eye
One of our tricks many years ago now when we had lots of rabbits was to go rabbit shooting with a 22 but stop the vehicle and have a break for 20 minutes.
Then we would start squealing and very often a fox would show up.
It was as though they trailed the rabbit shooting hoping to find a lost rabbit.

Last nights adventures.
Got to farm gate from the road & couldn't disengage the clutch so had to turn off the engine, cap off master cylinder, empty!!.
SWMBO had to go out to source brake fluid, managed to set up by half eight .... Fox rocks up nine o'clock and is quickly mobbed by the large number of sheep present making a shot impossible, sheep then try to trample & head butt Fox.:-|
Called it at this stage to get the crippled vehicle home.
Todays menu: dis assemble master & slave cylinders (going to love that).
The hydraulic fluid is made so that simple water can be used to get you going BTW. I was taught that one on my C&G courses back in the late 1960s, funny how little things stick in the memory bank. Now where did I leave my wallet?

Couldn't be arsed to mess about with old piping, ripped the lot out & fitted a bespoke flex from Pioneer 4x4.
