Out last night.

I know I know it's a temporary measure as we work on heel.
I did my spaniel pups' heel training differently this time around.
Off lead first using high value treats, simply choose which side you want the dog to heel, and have a treat in that hand, hold the hand down to the dog's nose level and walk, commanding heel as they follow your hand to snuffle the treat. I started when she was a little pup. used a short "longline" as well, made out of a length of washing line and a goat clip, wipes clean easily and never snags.

I popped out last night to try for a fox I saw last week , saw nothing except roe and hares.

Gave up after a couple of hours as it was freezing, temperature dropped to 2c with a northerly wind , couldn't feel my fingertips ❄️❄️

Out again tonight in the middle of nowhere so will be putting on 2 coats tonight 🤣

I used a hazel whip and swung it in front of me so it caught the dogs nose if it stepped forward to far and heard heel spoken softly when it did.

Well this vixen is going through the fellas!

Dropped one last night - assuming it was the vixen to the dog I shot out of a pair earlier in the week. Nope, another dog and she later popped out to have look (and I didn’t hear the phone ping as was quite happily tasting a birthday 🥃

#64.
This afternoon I was totally fatigued and got my head down for a couple of hours.
Felt much better after that so went and put some bait out after dark and took a look around where I had seen fox's pre dawn today.
On returning to cross the bait point I spied Charlie moving into the bait!
The rest is history.
