Alas, in this day and age that's not true. The piece of paper allows you to take the carcass to an AGHE....so it does mean something.Exactly experience in the field is what counts , piece of paper means nothing.
I know you need a ticket these days to fart.Alas, in this day and age that's not true. The piece of paper allows you to take the carcass to an AGHE....so it does mean something.
I'm not saying that I agree with qualifications for qualifications sake and ultimately all qualifications are developed as money making schemes from the outset (simple business). 30 years of experience behind the trigger will trump any piece of paper...but agree or disagree this is the way society is going.

The whole situation is a real pain in the backside. One of my mates has shot 1,000s of deer and has been shooting for 50+ years, is a bloody good shot and could shoot a hell of a lot more deer if he could get rid..the issue is the game dealer wants DSC2 and copper shot. No way in hell my mate will do his DSC quals at his age ... so generally we hammer them when I go down and I do the gralloch and inspections and off they go to the game dealer.I know you need a ticket these days to fart.
You will learn something on courses I agree but you will never replace experience in the field.
I have Level 1 & 2 but are no use to me as I dont use AGHE .
I just shoot them and worry about it later , gave away a few carcasses at the weekend.

My father did DSC1 & DSC2 in his late 70's some 60 years after he shot his first stag. The whole situation is a real pain in the backside. I personally wont pull the trigger on a deer unless I know where its going and at times that means I dont go out if I cant get rid (and if my freezer is full).
Not critcising your approach mate![]()

Roe are a bit different to fallow , the odd roe can be discreetly left for fox bait .The whole situation is a real pain in the backside. One of my farmers wants all the roe gone , last few I have butchered for his son .
Fair play to him hes doing the exact same thing basc / dmq have done for decades if people are willing to throw money at him i cant fault himWor Peter has got more £ signs in his eyes for the gullible out there.
Probably better waiting until the details about the course/qual are released on the 10th before making judgement....
Again it's all down to the choice of the individual if they wish to participate and spend their money.
Personally I don’t see any difference between that lot and the mob at Marford mill , let people take it if they likeIndeed
The caveat to that is who is behind the whole thing, the likes of Jones, Dalton and Rowantree who make their livings training people and selling stalking.
The original ethos of DSC was from the BDS who are an animal welfare charity-of course some folks made a load of money out of it but knowing some of the original members of the training committee I believe intentions were pure. Now we have independent practitioners devising courses, attaining LANTRA status, campaigning constabularies to accept it as equal to existing qualifications, and subsequently inventing further qualifications we will eventually have to obtain as I am certain it will become mandatory.
If it wasn’t so sad it’d be laughable, especially as at least 2 of the persons promoting it have been publicly shamed for dubious activity bringing deer stalking into disrepute, and the other spends most of his time fleecing rich londoners and stealing permissions.
I know of a few game dealers where you never get asked for qualifications, dsc number etc, so many stalkers out there without dsc 1 but they still take carcasses to dealer.Alas, in this day and age that's not true. Well those game dealers ought to be pulled up over it, and the stalkers should know better.I know of a few game dealers where you never get asked for qualifications, dsc number etc, so many stalkers out there without dsc 1 but they still take carcasses to dealer.
Particularly if you ain't got "Paper"Well those game dealers ought to be pulled up over it, and the stalkers should know better.
The rules surrounding the supply of wild venison into the food chain are actually pretty relaxed, but if people continue to abuse the situation then everything will get tightened up and we'll all lose out.
The minimal amount of "paper" currently required is very easy for anyone to get, so there's no excuse for not having it.Particularly if you ain't got "Paper"
