My near record Pike...

not saying kill every fish, but if im only doing it to put back it just seems a bit cruel.
i put back bass at sea when they are under size but my intention is to at least save one for the pot
Sustainability is the word shakey, only taking what you need is perfection... I scrumped a few bags of eating apples and pears a few weeks ago... we havnt been able estate them quick enough and a good few have spoilt... as it happens, because of my greed I have deprived two other families of some fruit off the same trees... you couldn't make it up, on Saturday while on the beaters wagon I was regaling everyone about my scrumping skills... and two other beaters in the village also pillaged a few fruits from the same trees ....

Pike are good eating but make themselves unappealing because of the Y shaped bones. But the are good eating and the French sell "quenelles" made from pike flesh.

Boat fishing for Pike on Chew postponed due to low water levels.
Blagdon is fly fishing only. John Horsey appears to be the residential guide. Not a cheap experience.
Decades ago on Chedder reservoir lure fishing for pike it was regular occurrence to have Jack pike taken by v large pike. Had several 20+lb pike almost to the net with a hooked jack clamped in their jaws. Always let go as they came to the net.
In those days Bristol water were netting big pike from Chew and they were transferred to Cheddar.
Also once I caught a very emanciated pike in the Cotswold water park. It had a partially digested moorhen in the back of its throat. Lake devoid of prey fish due to excessive cormorants.
