Here I am just having shot it. Still got the Prize Certificates and the picture above on my wall which is why I was able to get the information to hand. The rifle was one time owned by Nicholas Everitt he of "Round the World in Strange Company", "Shots from a Lawyer's Gun", "British Secret Service during the Great War" and Etc.. Now long ago sold by me.

About 30 years ago on one of the estates I used to manage the owner shot a red hind in the parkland outside the house. He used a sporterised .303 being an old Guardsman of that generation. That was fine but he had the wit to realise that he had injured a second hind beyond the one he shot and that it was injured. I was summoned to find it; a job made significantly easier because it was snowy.
The dog and I were pointed in the right direction and we duly followed the scent and (occasional/sporadic) blood trail towards "The Shrubbery" a variable thicket behind the house. The dog who was not far ahead of me put his feet up on the low wall in order to look over it. The injured hind rose from its couch and stood up some 60-70 yards away but did not immediately move. Realising I had little time I took a freehand shot at its neck (because that was the only target area I could see) ..... successfully. I praised G*d and thank HM the Queen and the BDS for lots of practice.
I know I would be significantly less likely to achieve that today. True tale, but I cannot prove it because the then Owner has died, his Gamekeeper, and my late wife to whom I related this.

For the off hand I am happy to enter if shotguns are allowed...otherwise I will not fake a fool of myself (well any more then normal)

Good shooting those who are brave enough to have entered.

When I shot Bell targer seriously in the league my best season average was in the order of 34.5/75.
The best shooter in the league average was 35.4. Maximum is 35.7.

How does that scoring work please?
Different leagues / clubs score differently.
For us the rings score 5,4,3,2 (no 1). The majority of the pellet through the hole scores an additional 0.5. So the photo above scores a maximum 27.5.

We are the only club in Norfolk, so not a member of a league.

Bell target is excellent for practising off hand shooting and our little club welcomes anyone to come and visit us on a Tuesday night to have a go. Just give me a shout.

7 shots. Bell target. If pellet goes down centre the Bell rings.
The plate is painted with white oil paint.
A die is used to clean out the hole If straight down hole no marks then 5.1.
IF slight mark 5 if the slight mark is covered by the die.
So maximum is 7x5.1 = 35.7
I thought the hole was 2x dia of a .177 pellet.
We used H @N Siluette pellets as most accurate and left a tiny central mark.
Last time I shot Bell target was mid 1980s so my memory is a tad hazy.
It was a very competitive league and we shot in pubs. Mostly spring match air rifles but some used Walter LGRs which were single lever pneumatic.

I also used to shoot 10m rifle whilst at Plymouth Poly.
