Variation Rules anyone with similar experience

for what its worth <nothing> but thames valley police say you can not swap a moderator slot for a fire arm. they are <vaguely> aware that moderators MAY come off of fac and have preempted those who would ask for a 1for1 to exchange a moderator slot for a firearm with a very firm NO.

I had no probs swapping a mod for a 6.5Creed with Sussex/Surrey. This was around 6 months ago, not sure if their policy would be different now following the mod announcement

They cant

They dont make the rules, much as they think they do. Are you in an org ?

I was refused a moderator for a rifle slot didn’t question it just accepted their decision I’ve recently renewed my FAC so it’s now irrelevant. I’ve had very good service from Leicestershire in the past apart for a variation that took a year to process although I think my application got lost in the back logs of course I was never told it had been lost.

I'm guessing they backed down then? Once you'd put it in writing and they had to reply?
First time yes, second time it was easier to pay the £20 because I needed the variation sorting. I suppose it plays into their hands but that is one of the things they are counting on.
What would stop all this deviation from HOG and the Law is a form of appeal that doesn't cost the earth. The fact you have to go to court and even if you win will struggle to get costs, emboldens them to ignore the law when it suits them.

It has always been the case of having a spare mod slot, ready and waiting to be used to swap for a firearm. eg a 44 Mag moderator slot for my Marlin 1894S underlever.
Certainly in my experience with D&C. In 30 years I think I have only paid for one variation and have churned 60 firearms in that time.

During my renewal I asked for a like for like replacement for a .270. It is an lovely Parker Hale without a mod. I'm looking to buy a modern plastic rifle with a mod. I did mention this to the FAO but question if they will put the mod on my license (yet to be received) given I didn't need one with the Parker Hale. Presumably if my license arrives with no spot for the mod then I just need to call my RFD and that can be added easily?

If you didn’t expressly apply for a moderator as part of the renewal process then you won’t have permission when your certificate arrives. It sounds like you’ll now have to pay for a variation to have a moderator added.

Will this mean I have to wait weeks and weeks again? I did ask for it at my meeting with the Police but just assume the worst....

I've never had anything refused that I mentioned to the FEO at renewal time, even if just a verbal request
