Partners to be quizzed in new gun licence screening

I can just see how it would play out here.

He's a xxxx husband.
He never cooks the tea .
He never does the washing.
He doesn't even know what a vacuum cleaner is.
He won't take his boots off when he walks in the house.
He leaves blood and feathers everywhere.
He dresses like a tramp.
He never takes me anywhere.
The FEO would just be glad to get the xxxx out of here 😄.

sounds like you've been talking to my wife.

Joking aside though what happens if your misses says she's not cool with guns in the house

The incident down in Devon was a direct result of the Police not taking the concerns of other family members seriously. Other members of the household probably are the ones who know the applicant best, and are the ones most at risk.

And to be frank if a partner doesn’t think the applicant is suitable to possess a firearm that should be a cause for concern.

Domestic violence is still rife - just ask any police officer or member of staff at any Accident & Emergency department.

That's not really what I meant, I totally support the need for speaking to partners and don't want guns in the hands of violent abusers.

I meant more in the sense if she replied "I have no issue with them having guns or going shooting, but I don't like guns and don't want them in my house."

Indeed baseless allegations too , I know of a chap it happened to was doing out to be a pack of lies but oddly the lady was never charged with wasting police time 🤷🏼
A similar story happened to a friend of mine, his partner at the time was caught playing away.

Luckily he had the foresight to place his firearms in storage.

An allegation was made of threats involving firearms , police attended to find the cabinet empty and an RFDs receipt of safe storage note in cabinet.(the date allegation was made the guns weren’t available to my friend)

So, no case to answer and a baseless false allegation.

He was asked if he wanted to press charges but led by the nose that it was better not to.

A wise man.

Choose wisely in the first place 👍
A genius who does not exist on earth, to make all decisions perfectly and foresee the future decades ahead. It took me 3 tries to get it right.

I had a FEO with a sense of humor. I pointed out that my wife had less fear of me with a gun then I had of her with a rolling pin

I understand the reasoning behind these questions and whether I agree or not I have no issue with them having an open conversation with the boss about firearms in the house.

I met mine when her horse threw a shoe out hunting and I was doing the terrier work , so she spend the rest of the day in my old Land Rover. Then there was a hunt social that evening . Rest is history (So I knew she was pro hunting/ shooting so would not object to guns in the house to which my response was 😊).

There is a world of difference between her saying:
"I do not want guns in the house",
and her saying:
"He is not fit to have guns in the house".

The first can easily be worked around, the second cannot.

I pretty sure the first meeting with the flo at home after I had applied for my firearms certificate (West Yorkshire) 15y ago
He requested my wife be present and asked how she felt about it
While I was present

Exactly the same for me 30 years ago when I was still living with my Mum, Dad and brother. Even had a visit from plod within a couple of months of my brother getting cautioned for weed. I stated I'm the only one in the household with a license and only I know where the keys are.

I’ve had a FAC and SC for over 50 years never have I had any conversations regarding this matter with any of my numerous FEO’s !
Just another cut in the death of a thousand there must be a office somewhere in the home office running a similar operation as the ministry of silly walks,

Next step let’s quiz’s the kids ?
Has your dad watched John Wick or the Terminal list kiddies ???
Lets check with the neighbours, are they aware there’s someone with access to guns next door !

What does the cat think ?
Utter bollocks

had my renewal interview back in november, he wanted to speak to the mrs,

she said she thinks I should bugger off out more often, and is happy with me having guns in the house,
he did ask if she knew where the keys were,
