New DNT Zulus V2

Out of curiosity, what magnification would set the scope at for ranges around 100 - 150 at night?
I shot deer at 130 and 100m in dropping light (second one was just gone 5pm so pretty dark) and I zoomed up to 20x as I was taking a low neck shot.
Worked just fine

Cheers, I was just wondering if the lower magnification would have be better for foxing. I've always used glass S&B scopes, I and would always be in around 10x mag or less for foxing, I have never used digital scopes before, that's why I was looking advice on the magnification choice.

The scope only zooms in 2.5x steps so really you don't have that much choice. If you're using thermal spotting you'll find it's better to stay at low mags to acquire the target, then zoom in if you want. Great though the scope is, technically, you're still basically working in black and white with the eyes as a bright point. It can quite difficult to find the target when you put your eye on the scope sometimes.

The scope also has picture in picture where you can have a higher zoom in a smaller picture on the screen.

It's not really a set and leave it kind of toy. E.g with sleep mode, lrf, IR settings and various other things.

Acquire/spot on 5x then zoom in as required - personally 7.5 is plenty…

Hi,
So, this was my first outing with it, so not exactly the best case to base your decisions on, but for me it was fine.

I guess, if it’s foxes you are after then you will take engine room shots and not worry too much about nicking the diaphragm or gut, whereas for deer I don’t want rumen soup inside the cavity, hence my zooming in further to allow for a neck shot on a youngish cwd.

Is it me, or does the focus change far to easily, goes black when taking screen shot, one of the worst scopes I have tried to set up.

What do you mean, goes black when taking a screen shot?

Describe what you are doing.

Cheers

If I lay the gun on its side then pick it up t is out of focus on the target, screen goes black for a second or two, when following the instructions on how to screen shot during the zero process, could be me I hate doing air rifles.

The freeze frame is instant. Basically move the cursor to the freeze button then push the right button when you want to freeze.

It shouldn't be going blank as the image on screen is frozen.

As far as laying the gun down, are you sure the scope isn't touching the surface you are laying it on causing it to shift the focus.

Cheers

No it’s a mystery to me, will try again tomorrow, the guy wants to use the ballistic chart, don’t,t know why on a air rifle,

That is the one real criticism I have - if anything the V2 is even more focus sensitive than the V1 - IMHO they should have replicated the zoom arm on the front focus ring.
Sooo - a cable tie or better still a fishing coaster attached to the focus ring will make things easier and help right-handed shooters not foul the IR when adjusting the focus with their left hand.

Totally agree should’ve fitted a lever of some sort to focus ring . I’ve fitted fishing coaster
Made it a lot easier and quicker to adjust

So, you're getting an improved product for the same money as the original product - what's not to like about that ?

Cheers

Bruce

Real question, the price of the V1 has now dropped massively, can pick up a non LRF version for £299… is the V2 worth double the cost of the v1?

Tempted to just get another V1, as then they also share the same batteries, charger, and usage so muscle memory etc is same when using them.

I'm often tempted to get another v1. I'm totally satisfied with the v1.
