Rain or shine, you can always sit in the Mule with the front window up, waiting over a bit of bait. It helps if your thermal has a charged battery... better luck tonight

Fox very often approach from my rearward, the old truck had a rifle rest that could be set to support the rifle to shoot behind me, commonly referred to in rear gunner terms as a "Scarf ring" so you didn't shoot your tail plane to bits

Good thing with the Alpex as the deer clock finished so the fox clock started, Fallow were Mia so while I was there it was worth a call.
The .270 blew it over and it rolled down the ditch, not wanting to leave it in a water course I slid down and retrieved it for the muck heap.

It's surprises me how far/high bits fly sometimes.

I remember once having a deck of cards sized lump of fox, fall back to earth a couple of seconds after the shot, so it must have gone a long way up!

I remember shooting one just as it squatted for number 2's in the bib and the piece of poo went about 4 foot at I spotted it with the thermal

A mate filmed with the thermal, fox at 75m with 65gr Vmax in .243, looked a bit like it had stepped on a landmine.

Managed an hour and a half on the rats last night, not many about. Had 8. That was all that showed.

Yep, drizzle and a very thin veil of mist stopped me getting out as well. I did see a fox crossing the field behind the house early in the evening but by the time we'd eaten it would have been a waste of time going out.

Good and bad....generally got absolutely soaked and came home a day early to strip the rifle and sort all my soggy gear out ....I ll try and post something in the daylight section when I get 5 mins
