Ouch...

Evil things thorns
Blackthorn particularly evil when hedgelaying.
Had to go to GP once to get one out of foot had gone straight through wellington!

I did that a few years ago circa 2020 but the hole was a wombat burrow and I broke the ankle and ruptured the achilles,a truly schit time in my life. Crawled 600 yards home in the dark.
Immediately after it happened, I was able to hobble to the car, but knew better than to remove my neoprene boot until I got home.. The picture is 30 minutes after the incident.. it swelled massively over days and time, and listened to advice to get it x-rayed.. This confirmed it was only a sprain..
Grim, but this was it 1 week later😢
Aswell as the damage to my ankle, and having gone down completely unexpectedly, so did my rifle and nav scope that was over my shoulder along with my griping in my left hand… minimal damage done.. the doubler lens sheered off through its fine threading, but was luckily able to re-thread this back on.. though needed a lot of fettling to get the focus and lenses re-aligned..
Makes me think about having a £5k thermal scope sat on a rifle😬 Luckily it wasn’t the case.. This all happened on a ‘public footpath / right of way’ across the farmers land. The dig was right in the middle of it..

I share the Op's pain having self-administered open finger surgery to remove a similar foreign object of significant irritation. Enough of a distraction, in fact, to overlook the deposit of $75K in your bank account!

I don`t know why the auto asterisks were implemented

I was wearing a new pair of "Bogs Boots" and the only way I could get the thing off was to gut it straight up the instep thereby rendering the boot truly stuffed.

Australia was God's proving ground. Biting, stinging, gouging, poisoning were all perfected here.

Even something like the Wombat - which on the face of it seems harmless enough - was designed to dig booby traps. I suppose it did not want to feel left out. :)
