Variations , how annoying are they ?

I think once you have established good reason for a stalking rifle, then thats the good reason. Cartridge / calibre in the real world makes really very little difference, especially when it comes to public safety.

We should allowed to posses a number of rifles - with a good reason for each type and then be be able change them, swap them etc and only need to inform Police of the change.

Would remove a huge amount of work from the police.

Focus should be on whether or not the person is suitable to possess and use a firearm. It matters not whether its a 7x57, 7-08, 308 etc etc

Sell a rifle but need a variation to then get a vacant slot for the same type of gun , then miss the 7 day window and get screwed for £50 to get a slot you already had !

I've never heard of this. I sold a rifle 9 months ago and put in for a variation a month ago (from .223 to .270). Granted in 2 weeks by the Met. I didn't pay anything.

It’s like:
Honestly mate, that’s exactly it. You end up paying £50 just to get back a slot you already had, makes no sense at all. Feels like the system’s more about charging than actually making things straightforward.
“Congrats, you owned it… now pay again to own the idea of owning it”

The counter argument will be the £50 is an administration fee that represents part cost of office worker processing.

The system will never be about making things "straightforward" for the applicant.

What an utter tool

Call me what you like I don’t care, but like I said the sooner you get your head around that it’s got to cost more, and the service you get is what you get, the law do not want publicly own Firearms that’s a blatant fact, you can kick up rear up do what the hell you like, but they’re not gonna take a bit of notice.

So if you wanna keep your guns, you’re gonna have to tow the line regardless of what service they give!

So it’s a simple as this tow the line keep your guns not really that hard to understand, the good days are gone and then never coming back

Personally I would like to see a 10 year license with slots which become free once you sell a firearm. This would cut down the admin burden for the firearms team and hopefully make them more efficient and therefore keep the cost "reasonable".

I have no objection in paying a fair price for a decent service ... just paying a load more for a poor service is not fair or reasonable.

Do I think this will happen...possibly but lets see. Given I dont smoke and dont really drink a lot there isnt much I want to give up :)

The reason public sector bodies always provide poor service is because there's no accountability or consequences for bad service. Why would they work to provide a good service, when it literally makes no difference to them. If anything is better for them to provide a poor service as more money will often get put in to it.

I agree to a point about the lack of accountability or consequence but I cant fault my local Firearms Team (Dyfed Powys). I also dont think people in the public sector set out to do a bad job either ... but in the private sector if you do a bad job and dont recover costs you go bust.

Keep dreaming , they would’ve done it by now if they were going to do it!
