Both, if I used it for game/vermin it wouldn't bother me, but I find the low power loads quite pleasant for paper punching

Got a 30-30 marlin 336, has a nice little 4x40 scope with a set of warn hollow base mounts so still use the open sights if im feeling brave. Condition for deer and AOLQ. my favourite gun in the cabinet and would pick it up to go for a stalk over anything else any day of the week. Especially if you home load and play with bullet choice and powder. You can make yourself a very capable little package. Iv just worked up a load using 150gr Hornady sst. Made the gun 250 yard capable now. Absolutely love the thing!

Yes, I use to load my 357 for rabbit with essentially 38 special kind of loads.
Was going to add from a bench stuff a magazine down your shirt.

When it came out it was called a long range game rifle!
I think factory copper loads aren’t going to be that easy to come by, and I must admit I replied before I read it was mainly for small deer.
What speed are you getting with the SSTs?

I like 12", easy to see that is.
Depending on species of course. At long distance hold top of back. Easy peasy.
Not so much with a munty…..
The previous owner had it threaded, the new Ruglin ones are threaded as standard.

Using 210 yard zero. 3.6" high at 120 and 4" low at 250 easy to compensate for that no issues at all. I run all my deer rifles the same way, max point blank range zero distance for 4 high and 4 low. Then dial for anything over that on the bigger rifles.
That’s a bit wide for me, particularly for smaller deer. My bolt actions are all all zeroed 1.8” high at 100 yards. Pretty much keeps everything inside a 4” circle, kill zone on a roe or muntie, from 0-250 yards. Scoped Lever actions are the same so don’t push past 150 yards for this reason.
7.5” is okay if you’re mainly shooting large deer I guess, but I’m not.
What sort of group are you getting at 250 yards? Have you shot many deer with that zero/MPBR yet?

I was drooling over a very nice lever-action rifle at the Stalking Show today, with some nice wood and some jazzy gold plated metalwork
Now if this were a shotgun, I'd have been very tempted to make a silly impulse purchase, but alas..
What's the typical usage or 'purpose' for these types of rifles in the UK? Fairly sure the one I looked at was .45-70 calibre...
I had mine for deer, fox, AOLQ and range use.

Haven't shot anything with the new load for the 30-30 yet. Only worked up and tested it over the easter weekend at 100 yards. Will be stretching its legs this weekend fingers crossed on 200+ yards. So far at 100 im getting 1.1 MOA off sticks so im very happy with that as the flat nose Sierra 150s won't do that!
Iv run the same 4 up 4 down on the flat point 150s and shot plenty of roe over the last 15 years with it out to 150 yards.
My .270 is zeroed the same, 270 yard zero. Point and shoot out to 300 and iv shot plenty of roe, fallow and red with it. Wouldn't change the max point blank range zero setup now, just so used to how it works on my rifles. Its each to there own realy, whats right for one isn't for another.
Dont get muntjack round me, just roe, a few fallow and tones of red.
Sounds promising, if it’s what you’re used to and it’s working no need to fiddle with it. Would be interested in the grouping at 250 yards, if it opened up to a couple of MOA, your 4” low could easily become 8” low.

Yes will see what I get on paper this weekend. Fingers crossed for some good results.
Hand loading the older cartridges certainly seems to get the best out of them. With hornady white tail round nose factory I was getting around 3” groups, with home loaded yew tree I’m under an inch.
Are you single loading or have you managed to get them short enough to cycle for one in the mag?
