Changing Taxation class with DVLA from LGV to Car? - L200 Barbarian Double Cab

I need help from the SD hive mind.

I own a 2017 Mitsubishi L200 Double Cab Barbarian DI-D, with a canopy. It's my own vehicle; not used for commercial purposes. It's my 'car'.

On the V5C it's listed as a 'Light Goods Vehicle'. This means that I pay higher toll charges e.g. on Dartford Bridge, Blackwall Tunnel and (I think) the M6 toll.

HMRC recently classified vehicles like mine as a car for the purposes of company car BIK, I believe...........

I am wondering if I can fill in a V70 and have this changed by DVLA on my V5C to 'Car'?

Anyone tried it? Any good reasons why this would be a waste of effort?

It still burns me that I got a fine for using the Rotherhithe Tunnel, when Blackwall was closed due to an accident. They have a weight limit on goods vehicles only, to protect this precious piece of Edwardian engineering...... They've caught thousands with this sign; 687,000 since 2019 raising £50 million! I didn't notice the sign, because that looks like an HGV to me, but officially it covers LGV too. I followed a Range Rover in and had a mini bus behind me, both weigh significantly more than me, but it's the GVW for vans which counts. An L200 is 2.9t, I learned. By God, I cannot stand TFL.

Hiding to nothing I think
It’s just the tax rating that’s changed for pickup based 5 seaters

Good luck though. But if you did manage it, expect your road tax to go through the roof

Can't be done.

While double cab pickups are classified as if they were a car for the purpose of BIK tax, it is for that purpose only and they remain an LGV for all other purposes - including VED and insurance.

This was all looked into when the BIK change was made and is going no where

As Rake Aboot has said - vehicle tax would go through the roof, not that £360 isn’t high enough already having just paid for the next 12 months🤬

Slightly off topic, but I lost the ability of third party insurance to drive any other car when I moved from my Landy to my Ranger due to it being classed as a LGV.

Any idea whether this reclassification to car status will revert on the insurance side?

I tried and failed to get my Nissan D40 kingcab re-classified as a car for a not dissimilar reason in respect of Isle of Wight ferry fares. DVLA refused to do it!

Isn’t it down to the insurance company some just gave this with fully comp, then changed that you had to ask for it.

I had this when I went from an SUV to a pickup as I had to move from a car to a van insurance policy.
Hunted for one that had the "driving other cars" extention but couldn't find one.
