Any love for 300 winmag?

I chose the 7mm rm over the 300 and I love it!! It’s some calibre for deer

Same

I’d of had a .300 WM but for my purposes a 7mm RM is a bit more of an all rounder, it’s being put to work on roe currently whilst my .308 is being bedded, and provided you are careful it’s not OTT. I suspect a 300 would be a little hot.

So not wishing to be rude, you’ve not had one but ‘suspect it could be a little hot’
I’ve not shot a 7mmRM so I can’t comment on its effectiveness.
That’s how the .300 WM gets a reputation it doesn’t deserve.

I have had a couple, also a 7 mm rem mag, I would have both again. If my 308 sells I will likely add another 300 WM. A fantastic round, the recoil is overestimated as is carcass damage with the right bullet it does just fine.

I suppose proof of the pudding and what not, so I do not know for certain a WM would be OTT for my purposes, but I have a .308 loaded relatively stoutly, have shot a 30-06 a fair amount, and a pal shoots a 300 WSM (loaded stoutly) and my opinion is based off these…for my applications.

My 7mm is very much my red deer rifle on bits of ground where slightly longer shots may be necessary, but it certainly needs to be put to use in other scenarios. And it can be very destructive if care isn’t taken on light framed deer.

Understood.

To an extent I think the ‘very destructive’ can be sorted by finding the right bullet. I don’t know if you homeload or buy factory, but not all same calibre same weight bullets are equal are they.

If you're not recoil shy it's a pretty versatile cartridge. I've shot a few and shot with people who love it but never owned one. I went for the .300WSM myself, shorter action and a little less powder, a bit nicer to shoot but does a similar job. I don't really do much hill stalking now so I'm selling it, maybe take a look. It would do everything you need and is a very nice rifle.

Ammunition for these more obscure cartridges is a challenge at first unless you drop lucky and the first brand you try works well. If not you'll be driving around a bit to find it. Once you have found it though, ask your local RFD to grab a few boxes with their next order and you're sorted long term. It's no big deal.

But does it see action?

Mate knocked this hind only last night on dark with his .300WM + Woodleigh 180 gr.
He also has 338win and a 300 rum that get used in the field.

That looks a bloody great setup. Have you modified it much?
Sorry, missed this.
Yes, she came as a Rem 700 Long range. Just about everything except bolt and action changed. We make stocks so that was easy. Proof Sendero Light carbon barrel made a big difference in weight. Rifle is balanced so that the COG is on the bore line and shoots fantastic even well over 1000m
