For total transparency I was asked by Oneleaf to field test there Mars MT1000LRF thermal rifle scope and if I thought it was any good to feature it in my videos on my YouTube channel (Veteranvermincontrol)

I had a look at the specs of the MT1000LRF and was very very impressed with what was on offer for under £1500

There isn't anything else on the market that can match the specs for £1500.

640 x 512
60Hz
Lrf with BC caulculator
2 Lenses 35mm + 50mm (70mm due soon).
3 year warranty

I eagerly anticipated its arrival and it was here within a week and I mounted it on my .17HMR as I wanted to see if it was usable at HMR ranges, obviously it's going to be good enough for airgun use but for me I would want something that I can use on my airgun/rimfire and then my Centerfires for foxing duites or even longer range rabbits....a versatile scope which would allow practical use in Identifying and being able to have a half decent image to shoot.

Its had been a warm day 20+ degrees and when I got out it was cooler but still humid, I managed to get the scope zeroed in fairly quick and set the BC up.

One thing that is worth saying is how user friendly the scope is in setting up and operating the user interface......its so simple!

I then took a little walk and it wasn't long before I was put into action and I quickly rattled 10 rabbits of in a large horse paddock

before setting off back to the van as the light faded where I then knocked over another 20 rabbits!

I was very impressed with the scope and how it preformed, especially given it was a close and humid evening, this thing would be even better on a colder night.

I'm just on sorting some footage out for my next video but I will try to get some clips up on here so you can see how it preformed.

Has anyone on here got any hands on experience with this scope? Would be good to hear how your getting on with it

Interesting Lone wolf,
Could you take us through your zeroing procedure please?
Thanking you, Ken.

Hi Ken, it was very simple to zero, on the whole it's super user friendly, I'm not the best with tech but even for me it was super easy.

Once you have shot a group at your target board you simply select the zero option on the menu which is accessed from the main button/dial ontop of the unit.

You then see a red crosshair which is overlaid on a white crosshair, all you do is move the red crosshair to your POI whilst keeping the white crosshair on your POA and then long press the record button to save the setting.

I was pleasantly surprised at how simple it was on the whole to zero and input the BC .

Hope that helps😊

Thanks for that.
What range did you zero at, which target did you use and could you clearly see the bullet holes through the sight?
Thanks again, Ken.

I zero my HMR @ 50yrds and I use a off cut off plywood and a roll of old backing paper to cut to size and tape onto my board.

I thought it was best to start fresh so taped a fresh bit of paper onto the board and then using clear tape i put a piece off tinfoil cut in a 20mm x 20mm square at the centre of the board.

Fired 3 shots at the tinfoil which shows up nicely in the scope, and each individual shot showed as a heat source on the board for a few seconds, enough to get in the menu and adjust accordingly, but I did it in a more controlled way by making the gun safe then going upto the target board with another bit of tinfoil pre cut into a 20mm x 20mm square, I then taped this square at the center of my 3 shot group and then went back to the scope and in my own time moved the crosshairs to my point of impact.......job done, no fuss no worries.......i then went on a thermal rampage and knocked 30 rabbits over in a few hours, fuelled on with excitement like a kid a Christmas with a new toy it was a joy to use and I can't wait to get back off holiday to have another go🤣 who needs sun sea and sand when you have a thermal scope for the first time!.

I'm hoping to get the footage squared away in the next day or two but the internet isn't the best where I am so🤞

Hi

Thanks for the review, it seems almost all the videos on YouTube reviewing this unit have been sent to the reviews by oneleaf so I’m taking it with a pinch of salt.

How’s the eye relief with this, how would it handle being on a Tikka T3X shooting 243?

Currently using pard ds35-70 which is great and has 100mm eye relief. How would this compare?

Thanks

Hi Deerhunteruk,

All of my videos are from my own personal experiences and honest appraisal of the MT1000LRF.

I've used mine on my airguns and rimfire's, and my centerfires .223/.243 with no issues with eye relief and mounting.

I genuinely believe they offer the best value for money a 640x512 thermal scope can have, ive got more stock arriving this week, 50mm and 75mm lenses

Here it is on my .223

Regards Gareth

Thanks for the quick reply, been reading some I’d your threads and seen a few videos too.

Just need to decide between 50 or 75mm lenses, mostly for deer stalking using tikka t3x shooting up to 100 yards give or take.

Any advice? Also have you got the videos demonstrating difference in quality and base mash between the lenses?

I like my current pard day and night but after having used a thermal and shooting in woodland or open fields in long grass, the thermal can see what the night vision can’t.

Are you same to offer any deals off the list prices and what’s the warranty situation, would you be honouring the warranty?
Thanks again

I personally think a 50mm lens would suit your needs for deer at 100yrds you wouldn't struggle, the base mag is x2.8 on the 50mm, I was shooting rabbits with my 50mm at 250yrds for comparison

The 75mm will also work very well and with its base mag of x5 give a better image to the user.

I have ran my 75mm on all my guns and I cant see me wanting to pit the 50mm lens back on as the 75mm gives me a larger image to aim at and works well at airgun ranges upto centerfire ranges.

So both will do the job.

3 year warranty and I personally deal with any issues so just send it back to me and i will sort it on your behalf, hope that helps👍
