Thinking of ditching my 17HMR

Im thinking about giving up with my .17hmr. Its lovely to shoot but constantly getting split cases and sometimes they end up getting stuck in the chamber and wont eject. What other calibres do similar job without these issues? Mostly for rabbits (without blowing them up)
Thankyou
The 22LR comes in a lot of different forms low power though to high power . Most of us will shoot rabbits with with subsonic or a high velocity but it its a big warren to search through . Sounds like you should clean the bore i and give it a little love and like some higher end stuff . Don't miss the bore and get a decent cleaning rod for the bore
I run a CZ that I picked up S/H i think i paid just over £100 years ago You don't need to spend say £250 But If your not good with gun maintaining in list someone who is
Blowing rabbits up is usually poor shooting , shoot them in the head it works up to 22Hornet and .223 Centre Fire and these have more double the power of any of the rimfire .
We all start someplace and we all had some form of mentoring , I wonder if another neat to you might help ? I am in The Forrest of Bowland Lancashire

Thanks for all the replys. I have given the bore a good clean and inspected the bolt. It all seems ok so will give it another try. I have actually inspected the ammo i have and in the current box there is 15 ish with splits. Its a shame i bought them a while back or id of returned them. The 17 hornet does sound appealing so perhaps in the future i may give one a go.

Pull one of the split case bullets. Tip the powder out. If it looks like flakes don't use the split ones. If it looks like dust, spherical it's the newer powder and it works regardless of the split case.

I had a used CZ452 17HMR and got loads of split Hornady cases. I swapped it for a new CZ457 17 Still shooting Hornady now very and rarely get split cases. I wonder if its was the chamber was a little oversized or worn on the 452?

That can happen but split cases after firing are not the cause of the squibs, it was when the cases were split before firing and the older powder type was dependent on a firm crimped bullet. New powder seems to not be so dependent.

Just watched a video about 22wmr verses 17hmr.
Anyone that thinks wmr is better in wind is very wrong.
Anyone that thinks Hornady 30gn vmax 22 wmr gives a violent expansion is very wrong, just penetration. Good penetration.
Anyone that thinks 22wmr has more down range energy is also very very wrong.
Just saying...
