I've made some fibreglass and carbon fibre composite stocks a few years ago for Sako 75's. I found it difficult and had a lot of failures.

I've been thinking of better and easier methods for a few years and got a decent vacuum pump so will have to pull my finger out again and make some lighter stocks.

My new stock is finally finished. I've posted a few pictures of the process on my 6x45 thread lately.

A huge thank you to Adrian0100 on the forum who painted the stock for me FOC! I can recommend his work. The coating is air cure Cerakote in OD green - lovely finish (aside from the few air bubbles from my fibreglassing!)

The stock (including forend) is very stiff and is filled with high density PU foam which adds stiffness and sound deadening.

Its made from 200g/m2 E-glass and West System 105/205 epoxy resin. The buttpad is a Pachmayr RP200B which is good quality and not too heavy...

Thanks to lockdown I've had the time to play with composites again. Over the last 12 days I've made a carbon fibre stock for my little Sako 75 A1. I will retire the fibreglass stock that I made 3 years ago for it

I've just painted the stock this morning and am really pleased with the result.

It's weighing in at 750g complete with bedding, Pachmayr RP200B recoil pad and sling studs. It really transforms the balance of the rifle and makes it feel like a toy! I made it with a longer LOP of 15-1/2". It feels very stiff and strong.

Big thank you to Rory AKA Takbok for my "McTakBok" carbon fibre sako 75 stock delivered some weeks ago been super busy so delay in posting, almost a perfect fit from the outset just a little bit of adjustment to bottom metal to get perfect feeding, but with Rory's advice I bedded the stock to be sure.
Its lighter than the old sako 75 plastic fantastic stock and stiffer by a country mile very little flexion in the forend.
Next week 30-50 rounds to sight it in initially then some serious practice and a distruction test...

The base rifle is a Remington 700 SPS varmint in 223. It will be a gentrified 1960s Varmint / Sniper rifle - if you like an Officers Sniper Rifle.

I’m on with a CF project for ELR but it’s early days and had significant help from Rory

LH .54 Sporting rifle. L&R lock, Rice barrel, Jim Chambers kit parts inletted and built by myself

The barrel is now browned, but I can't find any photos. I know the peep sight isn't strictly correct, but I hunt deer with it and my eyes aren't up to open sights any longer. The blob of luminous nail polish on the foresight isn't very 18th century either, but if it works, it works.

One ill-considered move with file or production paper and hundreds of hours of work must be consigned to the wood shed.

Its birch ply, 2 x 25mm offcuts i had laying around bonded together.
Don’t try it with regular marine ply, theres not enough laminations and its made of rammel!
As to where to get it from, a full 8x4 sheet will be well over £100 and you only need a strip maybe 250mm wide.
You may find some off cuts on Facebook Marketplace or ebay or you may have some local joiner shops that may give you some for a drink.
