Having owned both I can honestly say they both do the same job However, the Sako 85 is of far better quality in my opinion. When you pick the Sako up it feels solid in your hands and you can tell it has been built to last. The T3 is a great rifle but you can see that it's built on a budget.

If its a one time purchase of a quality rifle your looking for and you have the cash then go for the Sako. If your looking for an out and out workhorse built to a good standard for a very reasonable budget then go for the T3.

Both will do the same job, just like a Mondeo will get you from A to B, as will an Audi, just with a little more refinement.

having owned and/or shot all three I can comfortably say I would opt for the CZ527 .223 any day. nice and light with a single stack mag and single set trigger, but most enjoyably, the microlength mauser action. the 75 is wonderful too, but much heavier and I don't believe it offers a microlength action either, the stock is also much 'stockier', although it is arguably the best shaped stock on the market today.

As has been said the Tikka will do the same as he 85, I have had both but currently have the Tikka what you have to ask yourself is it worth the extra £600+ I don't think so but if you have the money then go for it but the Tikka will do all the Sako can, I no quite a few people who have the Tikka's and never had any problems people talk about the polymer mags but I've never heard of anybody having a problem with them breaking wearing out etc no doubt somebody will come along and say they have but there we go, so my choice would be the Tikka put the money towards decent glass, but if monies not an issue the the 85......

+2 I have three T 3's had them for years no problems. As Mongoose say's put the extra money into good glass.

The sako's are better than tikka but not by a great deal. ive had T3's, 75's and 85's. i will prob go for T3's in future as they are far more customisable. The only thing you can get for sako's is after market stock where as the T3's have become like remmies. You can buy almost anything for them....

That's what I did with my Sako 75... I'd rather spend the same budget on something decent and secondhand. After all, anything new is secondhand as soon as that first round goes down the barrel

I did the same with all my glass. Means someone else is taking the major hit on depreciation, especially if there's a "new & improved version" out ie Sako 85 and Swaro Z6i Gen 2

Funny that, on speaking to a friend of mine he's of the same opinion. Thinking of buying a new Quadand saying the VAT is the

real killer, as somebody always has to take "the hit", first time round ian.

It's not that I'm tight, but would rather have the spare cash for syndicate and rifle club membership - not to mention ammo!

I've saved over £3k on my Sako, Swaro scope and binos, and now have the single combo that will knock down anything in the UK

I knew what I wanted, and was prepared to scour eBay, Guntrader and Gunstar until the right kit at the right price came up.

It's not rocket surgery is it

+1. With Ben 1212. I have the 85 and the quad. (quad is varmint barrel) in three calibres. Build and quality on mine are faultless.

Works 100%, deadly accurate and I suppose they look pleasing to the eye, cost is above tikka albeit from the same stable block, with the 85 I think you get what you pay for.

The A7 bits of plastic used on the build, not so sure about having one of those, all I require is a honest accurate rifle that will last.

If I couldn't run to the 85 my thoughts would be a tikka as the first point of call.

Secondhand, well you pay your money and take a chance, buying new you have a fall back in the case of a fault, what do you have in the way of secondhand, if you're looking long term! Buy new.

Both Sako and Tikka are great rifles that are deadly accurate out of the box.
Although I think the new Sako 85 is a big step down in quality from the Sako 75 and S491's Etc
No doubt they still shoot - but they feel like they are made to a budget - rather than quality.

If you look at the two pics below - The Sako will be no more accurate than a Tikka ( less so in some cases ) - its the same barrel - The stocks are very similar - Actions, although different are both smooth and strong.

So you are paying an extra £ 427 to have a metal trigger gaurd and mag - Ok if that floats ya boat.

I would prefer to use that money and invest it where it really counts - better optics .

well i ended up with the 85 , label on the box makes it 3 not 4yrs old , and as the chap said very good con , and half price of a new one which i was so tempted to buy , but could not warrrant that amount for my useage , and as said i can now get yet another decent scope , i like the 6500 elite so will be be one simalar , thanks for all the help and pointers it did help . atb gerry

great choice Bongo, i sold my t3 varmint for a 85 Hunter in 223 , never regretted it and funny nough have just bought a elite 6500 for it, happy shooting
