Fox control - Which .223 Tikka T3X model most suitable and which moderator ?

You have already made the important decision….. TIKKA! Never seen one yet that didn’t shoot plenty good enough for what you intend to do. Buy one you like! It will be fine! lol!!!
I think so ! My nephew in the mountains has a lovely Sako his uses on Wild Boar, but a bit of a luxury for Foxes well under 250m. Tikka next best thing. :)

Any of them!
They will by and large always shoot better than their owners
Varmint barrels are not “more accurate “ and a .223 doesn’t need a recoil reducing pipe
Its foxing FFS
Centre mass the basil with an appropriate VMax and move on

On quietest mods
One with a 6mm hole will be
But its not for everyone

I totally agree, with 55g VMax, T3x, Nocpix scope, decent sticks and good fieldcraft, as well as Mr F being a huge target !

Totally agree. Not sure who has the largest on the shelf stock of T3X's ( Maybe SGC - Exeter ) but I plan to visit and get a feel for them 1st hand. I was thinking Laminate lite .223 even though 14 3/4oz heavier than the standard Lite, the stocks are at least decent and solid.
I do think people obsess too much with weight. If you are on a 12 hour hill stalk it may be relevant (although I`ve done a quite a few of those with an 18lb. tactical rifle and survived) but for most stalking and foxing outings I just don`t think it`s a big deal. Taking a good dump before you go out will probably save more weight than people fret about.

I had a Sako 75 Stainless Synthetic in .243. Lovely rifle, now passed on to my son. Tikkas however are a much better option if you want to customise - huge choice of every component and accessory imaginable. Both Sako and Tikka are superb rifles and show the yanks how it should be done.

I plan to get up to SGC asap, applied for variation, not sure if that will be happening anytime soon

They're likely to try to sell you a Steyr or a Benelli Lupo, both of which they're the importers of.
Last time I was there, the stock of Tikka rifles wasn't vast.

Ah, in that case I may have to look elsewhere after a brief visit :-|

Visited SGC Exeter. They had a good stock of .233 Tikka's. The T3X Varmint weighs a tonne  The Lites were nice and with scope, IR and moderator I would not want any heavier. No laminates in T3X and the polymer are very plasticy - probably because the stocks are hollow plastic. The CZ look great with walnut stocks. Much nicer feel to the other brands with laminate stocks. Can't find a used .223 laminate anywhere online ?

Tikka do a hunter version I think, it's got a wooden stock, they will do a deluxe too which will be nice.
Or just buy the cheapest one q put it in a proper grs hunter lite stock. The ergonomics for me are spot on. I've got one on each rifle.

There’s a nice Tikka T3x lite in .223 with a Polyfade stock in the GunRoom in Ivybridge Devon. It’s 1:12 but fine for foxes and very cheap - £750?

Laminate will add weight…….

Sako 85 laminate would be nice but not sure if they only did varnintvin that stock.

I’m among the mad few I think, my foxing rig is a medium weight .223AI with an Ase jet Z. But I stalk most with a heavy 26” barrelled sako 75, topped with a Ase SL5 and the vast majority of the 7 years culling I did I used a 26” heavy barrelled howa with a .25 jet-z, often covering 6 miles plus on foot over hilly and tussocky downland. Weight didn’t bother me at all! At the end of the day there’s less than a kg between my heaviest varmint field set up and my lightest sporter weight set up, if you’re reasonably fit it’s not enough to make a difference.

Those barrel lengths wouldn't work out of our Gator  .
