Fox control - Which .223 Tikka T3X model most suitable and which moderator ?

I am steering away from .243 due to reducing noise levels and the eventual lead ban. I will be using predominantly .223 Hornady 55g V-Max and mainly walking and shooting off the Recon. Any recommendations on which Tikka T3X model would be most suitable and any additional specification information would be most welcome. Those that have used Tikka's extensively will have all the answers I need, so I buy once and end up with the perfect .223 Rifle and low noise Moderator setup.

T3x lite, 1:8 or 1:12 twist won’t matter, especially since 223 seems to be exempt from the lead ammo ban.

I got the 1:8 though.

Any mod be fine, DPT I picked. Stick a NV / day / night scope on it and away you go.

Not the varmint, a stainless lite 1 in 8 twist, aftermarket adjustable stock, grs or krg bravo.
The Varmints I have seen have been heavy, especially with scope/illuminator/sticks/spotter etc, so I also was thinking Lite. What stock were you thinking - is original bad ? Thankyou.

I am wondering what the quietest .223 MOD is likely to be - happy to pay what is needed to get what I need ?

I am thinking Varmint great accuracy, but I have a LOT of walking. The DPT seem low cost, but perhaps they are one of the quietest on the market - I'm not sure ?
DPT well made, good attenuation, available SS baffle if you're worried about gas cutting, and sold and backed up by an all round good guy.
Heavy rifle, easier to shoot, but short helps that too. They're really not heavy if you have a decent sling.

Tikka T3x Roughtec .223 1in8" has the medium profile barrel. Mine has the Stalon 108 sound moderator and is in a PSE Lite stock.
I worked up a load and at 212 yards with a thermal scope mounted got this witnessed 4 shot group. Both me and my gamekeeper have no complaints as we blooded it last night 😁

Fair enough. What barrel length and what is a good recommended sling?

buy a shot out t3, not an X, and have a custom tube put on it. no need for varmint, lite is fine for foxing and a DPT moderator. if you need a bit more cheek weld you can fit comb raiser or adjustable stock kit.
Interesting, who do you recommend for good custom tubes and what .223 tube are you thinking and why ? Max is 200m range night, most I can stalk or call to sub 100m. I know Mark Ripley has custom tubes but I am only on around 150 a year.

Not Tikka but I use a 1:12 24 inch varmint barrel, Rem 700 action in a GRS adjustable, absolute dream on foxes and outstanding on a bit of steel out to 800 metres for a plink. DPT mod.

There are going to be a lot of variable views on the subject - hopefully I will see a trend developing with any luck ! DPT Mods seem the go to choice so far.

a tikka factory barrel is very good and adequate, however a properly fitted custom barrel will be better (faster, more accurate, easier to look after, twist rate you want, profile you want etc) and you'd get good backup from the rifle builder if ever you had a problem. see what happens if you have a problem with a new rifle and have an issue that the distributor has to deal with. good luck with that! and a custom barrel on a s/h action is probably cheaper then a new stainless t3x. and there's no real benefit in the x, the stock is a little nicer but functionality is the same. just 1 screw and 2 pins different on the pic rail fixing, but when ever has a t3 with 4 screws not been enough. just be selective about who you get to fit it, all rifle builders are not equal.....

The factory stocks are functional will last ok. The action is spot on and the stock is let down by the accountants. It’s cheap and the cheek piece is quite low. Buy the most basic t3x and get a good stock. Even an mdt field is only 300 quid but really nicely made. I’ve got 2 grs laminate stocks and I’m very pleased with them.
The roughtec stocks etc are pretty much the same shape as the cheap black plastic ones but painted nicely.

I would have no idea who a good rifle builder may be ? The Wildcat MOD's are not insignificant in price but they seem to get great reviews and the noise levels are so low.

Your foxing is pretty much the same as mine, plenty of walk & stalk, shooting off quads, virtually all shots under 200 yards, most 100 - 150.
I plumped for a T3x Lite, 8 twist. It's now in an MDT Field stock. I'm shooting 60-grain V-Max homeloads and can't remember the last varmint I missed with it.
If you get a heavy barrel, you're bonkers, no need at all for what you are planning to do, and if you do a lot of walking with it @ 65 years old, I reckon you'll want to lob it in the nearest ditch pretty damb quickly.
