Which 223.

Nope, it's the Hunter Laminated Stainless, available in a whole bunch of calibres and chamberings. The .223 has a 57cm unthreaded barrel or a 51cm threaded - sporter weight, non-fluted. Look it up on Sako.fi.

Cheers
Forgot to mention that with a 2-10x32 FFP scope, a sling and six 55gr rounds in the mag it weighs 8.8Ibs.

Cheers

Cz527 is putting me off with the slightly backwards safety, the high bolt lift (which means you need to mount the scope higher) and the trigger not as crisp as the Tikka (I have a 550, set trigger is crisp but the regular trigger not so much, a bit spongey).

At the moment I am thinking the Tikka T3x lite stainless or even the super lite in 223.

From the choices listed: the CZ 527 is a wonderful little rifle, all Tikka’s are nice.

money No object the Shultz & Larsen Legacy can the be ordered with two twist rates of 223 and a 6mm x 45 if you fancy a heavier pill

The real,BARGAIN is the RWS Titan3 like the Legacy a three lug bolt, and its a take down. £350 is a lot less than £1500 For the S&L
Plus one one the RWS titan 3 + 6 . I use two one 22.250 and a 6.5x55 also two tikka's a 695 and a T3 .
For the money a 2nd hand RWS is a no brainer shot gun 3 position safety

Good news for Tikka lovers, the new Tikka T3x Lite Roughtech Ember .223 is available in the UK now with 1 in 8" twist, 22 4" barrel. Will post some chrono readings tomorrow, so far it's pretty impressive: light, super accurate and likes 40gn Vmax as well as the heavier stuff.

Sure they are lovely but I should have mentioned in the original that I am after something light weight that is a joy to take out for a walk around the shoot and shoot the odd vermin, fox, crow, magpie etc during the walk.

Needs to be light and handy 👍🏻

You got one in for test then Chris?

Do you find it front heavy?

Are you by any chance able to compare it to the Synthetic stainless Tikka T3x lite?

Does it have a heavier barrel as I thought?

Thanks

Lloyd

Yes I have one now, collected it yesterday. Not front heavy at all, its possibly an ever so slightly heavier barrel than the old "lite" but nothing much in it. It's certainly much lighter than the varmint, thank god and is still sold as a 'Lite' according to the factory sticker on the box.

I'll have to check the specs on the Tikka website.

Let us know how you get on please :)

Yes, seems to be as accurate as the super varmint up to 300M, I'll not be able to test properly beyond that until the end of the month, shoots everything from 40gn upwards, heaviest so far being 69gn - not tested 75 yet. The only thing I don't like compared to the super varmint is the stock, the roughtech ember stock has a nice grippy texture and looks good but as I also use this rifle with thermal I need an adjustable cheek piece due to the height of the scope, so its now in a green super varmint stock, which gives a repeatable eye position for very little (if any) additional weight. The extra 2.5" barrel length is giving me around 70 ft/sec faster MV, so nothing major. The Ember is a lot less tiring to carry over long distances compared to the 20" super varmint, although its actually only 500grams lighter, but I guess it all adds up and takes me out of my comfort zone. I'm tempted to buy another one to save swapping scopes over.

I’ve had a few 223s but I now just have a standard t3 with a 16” barrel and it’s great to carry and accurate as you like. I am looking for a lighter mod than the current ASE but it’s still a joy to carry

That 223 mate?

How’d you find it? I am back in the U.K. next week after travelling the US, just seen an 85 Hunter in 223 on guntrader.

Looks a half decent package on offer.

Sako85 hunter is excellent. Light weight in 223 using fox non toxic ammo. Or the sako75. Brilliant rifles. I've got 4. Enough said.

I have the 527 Stutzen in .223. It's an absolute joy to carry and shoot. Of course, if you need a moderator they're no use to you, but I absolutely love mine

If I didnt have a Tikka T3 already, Id get a Tikka Vamint / SV in 1:8 barrel. Superb.

Theres one on here for sale (not mine). You wont go wrong. Lots of aftermarket accessories and easy to rebarrel when the time comes.

Pick a rifle that is ergonomic to your build. Get a barrel that is suitable for the bullets you want to shoot.

I got a CZ 527 night sky in the hand today and was going to buy it but noticed right away the rifle was not straight in the stock!!

The kid at the shop said “once you get the scope on, you won’t even notice it!”

Had to tell him I’d already noticed it and asked what they would do if it don’t shoot right pressing on one side … he just stood there with no suggestion.

Ended up walking out.

That’s me done with CZ rifles, the quality control just seems a bit naff.
