Anyone have anything to add?, Four beasts taken, Weather about as good as it gets,& a possible sales opportunity for quad tyres?.................:-D, & a bit of a change in the management structure too!

Gents,

I believe that Rab Loganand Neil Griffiths are no longer involved with the scheme and it is nowbeing run solely by BASC, I assume that is what you're referring to when yousay there has been in change in the management.

Four deer for ten guns, that's that doesn't sound a lot aof deer for what would be 80 outings for the week. Are you sure itwas good weather during the week, as I know it is very much weather dependant to get good results?

Regards,

Tim

Bit of a coincidence isnt it?! You take away two guys who live and breathe deer stalking, and Bob who knows that land inside out and people dont do so well. shock horror!

(not a dig at you, more at BASC/FC for the knee jerk reactions, however i dont know the full story..)

Ha,
IMO that sounds exactly like the number of deer you should expect UNLESS....
you have been before or are prepared to hunt not stalk. the only hind that was shot (and hit) on the week I went was secured after a 6.5hr high seat excursion

Dont get me wrong, i would go again and be better prepared and armed

Hi, what are these knee jerk reactions you speak of then?

As far as I was aware Bob Logan is still there helping co-ordinate? Cheers

Had a call from my mate. Hey, you're going to Arran, aren't you? Yep I replied, sure am. Rgiht he said, I'll pop around with your paperwork when I get chance. For reasons unknown to either BASC or myself, his address had appeared on my file. What's the chances of that? Wrong name address and it just happens to be someone that I know?

Shame they didn't send him the invoice too.

I was just going on what had been said earlier on this thread ref Bob logan no longer being on the scheme and that BASC were doing it in house. The knee jerk reaction was to cancel the stag weeks and i imagine some sort of investigation into what is an uncontrollable act ie a medical issue opposed to something which was directly related to the way the scheme is run. As i said, i dont have the full story so wont pass judgement..

I would be very disappointed if both coordinators are no longer involved and reckon your chances of connecting with deer being significantly reduced if this is the case..

So, is there a confirmation on whether Bob is still on board with the scheme or not?

Bob is, I'm afraid well sidelined!,.... poor fella just has to sit in the office & wait for an extraction request, As to____

Did you manage to get a shot? Cheers ,
No shot from me, well not from a rifle anyways!:norty:

Finnbear is that not what Bobs always done. I know he sorted the saftey range with Griff but that was the last we saw of him unless we shot a beast.
Bob was always out & about, very rarely tied to his desk, & you probably would have needed satellite help to see much of either Griff or Bob, unless they were on your beat, Griff & Bob were also the mainstays at the larder, it was always a pleasure to watch them do the Edward scissorhands bit!:)

Just seeing if what I hear, is going to be forthcoming from someone else better qualified to make comment, like maybe someone who was on the week?;)

Was that your cull figure or every bodies I went 3 years ago on a early week just before rut my mate shot a fantastic stag but we only saw 4 stags on our beat. Was the most southern one not much open ground enjoyed the week, Think in the week total cull was about 18. But 5 was good trophy beasts

Finnbear I still dont see what you are digging for either you have a grudge with BASC or you are just stiring. As you and I know there are a lot of factors to consider with Arran stalking.
1. How much effort the Individual stalker puts in.
2. weather
3. stalkers individual experience
4. If you have stalked Arran before.

I have been to Arran my self for the last six years on both stags and hinds so I know what both Bob and Griff do. No one person can put you on deer they may guide you but its down to your own personal experience and always a little bit of luck so if they had a groupe of inexperienced stalkers or first timers to Arran I would expect a low number of deer shot. I personaly have never come away from Arran without shooting at least one deer and I have had three on a couple of occasions.
To the best of my knowledge Bob is still involved. Im on the last Hind week this year so as far as Im concerned low numbers for one week mean more chances for me not a negative but weather I connect or not I will still have a great week away from work.

Dan, I am there on week three, or as it is - the new week 2? :???:

I shall give a full account I promise!:hind::thumb:

Might not be very edifying, but I shall share all.

Local knowledge is very important. But so's not being a complete dunce out in the field. Sometimes you have to make your own luck.

Not been before and I appreciate that there has been 'stuff' going on :suss:. So all I shall be able to give is an unbiased view of how it is now. Me, rifle, trees and hopefully, deer.
