Couldn't get out to do a fresh 3 shot group but have a 6 inch shoot and see target from a few weeks ago. I was experimenting with different factory ammo for my .270 model 70 . 6 round group from a cold barrel with bipod off bonnet at 100 yards
2 x 130 gn (Winchester soft points)
2 x 140 gn (Hornady SST)
2 x 150 gn (winchester soft points)
I was surprised how well they grouped for different weights/manufacturer

I've got a range slot on New Years day and (weather permitting) will give it a crack at 100 and 200 yds off sticks... don't expect too much

I think we are missing things here, as it's a stalking scenario, perhaps a 2 mile yomp and someone poring water down your neck while taking the shot, and for one member on here a full bladder :D

Well I have just had to strip my 243 down to fix the ejector so need to check zero anyway so I will give it a go this morning.

well rebuilt the rifle and gave it ago 5 shot group laying in about an inch of water using a bipod.

Rifle Sako 75
load 70gr Nosler Bt
range 100m
wind 10-15 mph left to right blustery

I'm posting from my iPhone the image should be portrait with the group being slightly high right.

Not very good group so I might give the rifle a clean I would of hoped for better but I haven't cleaned it for a few weeks so its had 150-200 rounds through it since I last cleaned it after Adjman and numerous others shot it on their DSC1 test

It looks like a fine group to me. A deer would certainly be seriously dead as a result of meeting it coming the other way.

Firstly I'd like to thank caorach before I post my results. It has made me realise a few things and has given me some new tears resolutions.
1. Finish my reloading development on my .243
2. Practise more, which therefore means shoot more

My shooting was taken firstly at 100m using a single stick in the kneeling position

My second group of shots were taken at 300m once again using a single stick seated but jammed up tight against a hedge
The first group is the one on the right and the second on the left.
I am using hand loads 85grain HPBT and 36grain Varget. Seated 15 thou from the lands. I think from the results that the load is too mild. From what I have read I can go to 37.5 or 38 grains, so I have a little to play with.

I think both of those are decent groups from sticks and you should be pleased with them, in fact they'd be decent groups from prone and especially if you haven't been practising much recently which you sort of imply. If your 100 yard group had been centred on the black dot of doom you'd have 2 in the black and one just a shade outside.

teyhan1: I think that's a good 100yd group kneeling with one stick! that's not an easy one to pull off- much more difficult than with 2 sticks

Yes, maybe but the whole idea was a bit of fun that should simulate you stalking. I often don't even have a stick and will use a fence post/tree or have laid down and used my binos as a bipod

Here's my group, standing shot off twin sticks at 120m. 1st and 3rd fine, pulled the 2nd an inch or so.
