Best grouping at 300M

This doesn't really fall into "Grouping" as such, but a crowd of stalkers being given a first taste of long range shooting, with stalking rifles & ammunition, all had first round hits, together with subsequent hits on clay pigeon targets set out @ 600 ........ granted all rifles had been shot through a chrony over 100 yards first, & data produced for holdover & windage, what sort of measurement of accuracy could that be calculated to?

If the clay pigeons were 110mm diameter, then accuracy works out to 0.7MOA.
First round hits at that distance are hugely impressive!

View attachment 22728Not hunting ammo, this was the very first group I shot with 155gr scenars out of my former tikka 695 continental master in 30-06,I put the first 4 shots into 0.640 oai and let the last one go a bit,was still sub inch, yet again top performance from an off the peg tikka

It's not to difficult to tune a good tweeked rifle to shoot sub inch at 300 yards
i seen some that shoot sub .250 inch at 400 yds this was a 6.5-284 custom rifle
most good groups come when theirs no wind
get out on a breeze and most folk won't shoot 3 inch groups at 300 yds and they still say theirs no wind but a 3-4 mph wind change is hard to see in the field

The 6.5-284 is a bit special and you would expect it too,we would all have one if the barrel would last as a normal caliber.

How many shots does the barrel do,1000 If you are lucky I heard somewhere, expensive hobby if you are a target shooter.6.5-284 is the daddy

The is loads of videos on utube on the 6.5-284.not sure on ballistic performance but the 260 ai can launch a 140gr vld at 2920fps,the daddy must have way higher figures than that.

Mine would shoot the 140s at 2950-2975 it go way faster but it shoots bug holes at that speed
the stalker at 26 in would get 2900 and shoot single holes at 100 yds
for longer ranges the 7 mm is pretty hard to beet
its all in the wind and ones ability to read it accurately in the field

How many shots will the 260ai barrel last,am thinking of changing too this cal halfway frew next year.are you meaning 7mm rem mag,a lot of powder for little gain I would imagine,is there a 7mm head with a higher bc than 6.5

I have a 6.5 x284, it shoot comfortably into .3moa. I recon on about 75 pence for the reload and 50 pence towards a new barrel with every shot. Just best not to think about it too much. It's not a staking rifle, I really wouldn't like to lug it round the field for too long. My 6br also shoots ok, but again not a stalking rifle and certainly not shot off sticks, however here's a target shot with it at 220yds off the ground/bipod. The grey disc is .5 inch across and the group just squeaks into the magical .1's

The 260 would go about 2k rounds or over
i really like the straight 284 neck up the 6.5 to 7mm
or a short mag like the 7 saum

If the 260ai does 2000 plus shots that would be over 2 years shooting for me which isn't the end of the world :D,the 2000 odd berger 140grainers add up to price of new barrel too
